All around the world

It Wandered In From the Wastes
This would be a thing very difficult to do. I know. And seeing we don't know anything concrete on the development of Fallout, or who exactly is doing it, ... the doubt that "they" can do it properly is more than justified.

However, as an idea stretching fallout to cover the whole world is interesting to me.

But only if, and thats a hard if, its done appropriately in true fallout style.

Fallout is heavily dependent on American style 50s sci-fi, and the general design and atmosphere of post-nuclear US.

So that is a major obstacle, right at the start.
If you go to much into strange foreign lands and adopt the design of the game too much...its not Fallout anymore.

But following the fallout cannon can give nice solutions.
It would be fair to assume that F3 would start after the F2 in the timeline. And by Fallout the world didn't get much better through those years, if anywhere else in the world there were other survivors, which is again logical and acceptable i think, they are probably in shorter numbers than before, and fewer than before.
So limit those other areas into smaller but interestingly written subplots and quests. Keeping the minimal and survival tough outlook and atmosphere of Fallout on a few selected locations.

And keep well out of such as : visiting the eiffel tower or Big Ben and London (because the great Britain no longer exists for example), or similar corny places.

The transport to those locations would be toned down, to avoid additional complications, to automatically controlled vessels like the tanker in Fallout 2, a flight in a Vertibird - one way ticket into unknown across the ocean if possible ( i don't know if vertibirds had such range but i suppose some adapted version for such flights could be put together)...

Or a nuclear or even ordinary submarine.

Through some tough quests you unlock these one way tickets and choose to take them or not.

I think it could be considered as a great tool to show the extent of the tragedy beyond borders of US, if for nothing else because many people that play it are not from the US.

But mostly because i think it could add to the greatness of Fallout.

The main mission which would happen out back in the US, and im thinking about middle and southeast US, could be possible to finish without going to these journeys but harder or maybe only three or four destinations would be required and about ten others optional.

Main locations:

radioactive petrified (by nuclear fire) Black forests of Germany, by night mostly ( good for some nasty mutant arachnid terror, packs of dying zombie wolves diseased all over, maybe some remaining human settlement with a strong small shocking story...etc)

When you get out of that you travel accrues the mountains, or fly in some connected balloon with no steering and you land on the outskirts of radioactive ruins of Bern.
(Always sounded like some mean cool city, it was mentioned allot in the dealings of shady characters and people with connections and power in the Neuromancer by Wiliam Gibson)

There you could find out how even such secluded places as Switzerland could not escape the doom at the end,
You would brave the glowing ruins, death all around...finding that there is even no insects around which would be suspicious...
And when the night would fall they would come for you from all sides...silent large deadly Amoebas.
resilient to any form of phisical damage, totaly poisonous, with skin like rubber, coated with neurotoxins that paralyse anything just by touch, no internal organs just jelly in which would still be visible little bones and sculls of its earlier victims.

I think they are even part of the sci-fi apocalyptic general cannon.
I found them in a few stories and even comix i think.
Cant remember from whom unfortunately.

You could find worthless stocks in some vaults, tons of useless gold,
and maybe a few things worthwhile.

And an escape route.

Possibly because of the amoebas already there you could at this moment make an little homage to Damon Knight, and make one of the escape routes with a vehicle described in his story:
" Four as one" i think...

I recommend you read it if you haven't already and do not read this spoiler below:

SPOILER!!

In the story the main character with three other crewmates goes out of the spaceship to scout local surroundings on an unknown planet they just landed on.
He ends up sliding down some narrow slope onto a kind of green carpet below it and wakes up to realize that he is moving because he can slowly see the ground in front of him

--- you introduce it into the game just like this, slowly without explaining--- you see your character stumbling off some hill than blackout and slow efect of seeing more and more. There is no hud anymore and all controls dont work--

He then realizes that not only he can't move his body, there is no body! Only his eyes and brain are left connected by nerve tissue.
He has been totaly assimilated by that green amoeba creature under that hill, and not only that but his other three colleagues are in there with him, also assimilated.
gradually their nerve tissue connects and then they can argue and try to take the control of the whole creature and in the story there evolves the fight for survival inside that creature because they realize through talking and experimenting that it is a mindless parasite who catches animals with a brain, assimilates their bodies for food and uses their brains to navigate himself around in search for other food.
they also realize that they must work together in coordinating different parts of the creature , each of them now holds under some control, to cach some local animals, which are rare, and assimilate them, even survive an attack of a large carnivorous reptilian that almost killed them all.
How they got out of it, and how will you ultimately get out of it you will have to read in that excellent small story :)

SPOILER END

Anyway while doing all that you would be traveling and maybe even slip through masses of those other deadly amoebas because they "think" you are a cousin or something now :) .

Or you could completely miss it and find some other way to few other locations.

Such as Kilimanjaro mountain in Africa covered in Chaga with all the weird effects it brings, chaos, anarchy, madness....or something else?
"Chaga" by Ian McDonald.

Read it and weep because it will never be.

And then, because the Russia and the countries of warsaw pact are burned and dead and destroyed completly with nothing but black big Craters and radioactive desert, you could somehow find your way to australia, maybe visit south pole briefly, because Australia is a good place to find a submarine, if its not to much of a easter egg.

If we take that you sailed from africa on a Chaga seed, maybe even propeled through the air in a cocoon, and if you are familiar on how Chaga reproduces tha you know that those seeds are made to be tough enough to survive atmosphere entry, Suns radiation, micrometeorite impacts and collading with moons, asteroids and Plannets. Which in this case would not be nececary.
Just a little : "Alright i had enough of you crazy human running around making everything worse, killing my creatures, meddling with everything! OK im gonna set this big cocoon just here...yes...yes...come inside...take a look....yeess and...
Off you go! FFLUMMP!"

And you go flying and crashing by that submarine down under.
In which ever place it was in that old movie.

And you could have something like that crew from the movie with similar dialogue asking you how it is on the rest of the world, and then not believing you so much that they think your crazy or that you are just trolling them so they start to flame you, err...fighting with you, and you can highjack their submarine and kidnapp the best chick (hey, have multiple choices!) :P and make a run for it.

Sory for mixing ideas about new creatures and everything with this, but its hard to separate it talking about Fallout, because every part of it must be good. And make other parts better. Its all so conected.

Im interested what you think, is it too much?

And what other locations would be cool enough, and could sute fallout world by your opinion? If done in the same Fallout american sci-fi style and all the rest making it.

Please avoid saying silly things just to say something that would not be apropriate for this game.

Every location should be gritty, survivalist, dangerous and serious, true Fallout, the whole world is a mess so even if you find some secret bases by some sidequests they would always tell some sad ironic, or shocking story.
Little or some equipment and high tech, which would be usable only once or twice or for some limited time.

It is an oportunity to give the player more insight into reasons for the war and make fun of everything first two Fallouts turned to ridicule.

And get a little sense how terrible it was for the poeple living around the world.

Plus hours and hours and hours of gameplay.

Ah shit, not this again.

Good idea, but it has nothing to do with fallout in ANYWAY.

Sheesh...
