Wow...I just got yet another Bargin Bin game shipped to me and this one takes the cake for best game of 2003! I haven't played a game that I felt this immersed in since Final Fantasy 3 for the Super Nintendo! Well...or Fallout. =P
Anyways, Blade Runner runs ALONG WITH THE MOVIE. Its not retelling the same story with Harrison Ford as Decker. Its not a sequel to the game. Actually it takes place with another Blade Runner who goes about trying to solve a mystery starting with the massacre of "live" animals. Fans of Blade Runner should note that most animals were killed or rendered extinct during the Phobos War (which I picked up from the game not the movie.)
Anyways, you can do anything in the game that you saw in the movie. Remember how Decker could like take your standard photo and blow certain parts of it up or even (4th dimension style) turn around the angle to see a guy's face? Well you can do that. In fact, its a very advanced detective sort of game. You can do anything and you have all sorts of choices to make pretaining to the NPCs.
Remember how they gave those tests to people during the movie? They'd ask a series of insulting or unnerving questions in order to see if a person is a replicant? Well thats what happens here. Plus it has a combat system. You just pull out your gun and get ready to shoot any bad guys chasing after you or fleeing the scene.
This game is amazing and a lot of NPCs you'll recognize from the movie. In fact, they have the same voices!
You can get the game at electronics boutique for 9.99 now OR you can get it at nothingbutsoftware.com
The game's from 1997, but its probably one of Westwood's finest games.
And it runs on XP without a problem too. I wish I could say that with other games. =P Anyways, the only problem I had was that the installation of the game doesn't put a save folder in it. I just made a file called save and then poof! Everything was fixed. You can find some already saved games on the internet too. Don't worry about patches, you should get the most updated game. And well...you won't find much support on the web. Thats the only drawback. Great game! If you like adventure games and you can't wait for Full Throttle 2 or Sam and Max 2 from Lucas Arts then I suggest you go out their and spent your 10 bucks on Blade Runner!
Sounds like I'm some psycho advertising guy, but I can't afford the new crap people are dishing out. I'm paying my way through college so I'm looking for the biggest bang for the buck. And you'll go far with Blade Runner. =)
