the lone deathclaw
First time out of the vault
This started as a journal i made on Fallout 3 on another forums for a different game I played. I'd like to say to those of you who see those who lived the old games as just haters we're not, we waited 11 years and hoped this would become an amazing game. If this was better than the first 2 most of us would have truly embraced the game. Yes the old game had flaws and for those of you who said science was not useful i'm pretty sure you never used it to get the best skynet and stimpaks and superstim paks on demand from Myron. Yes there were cheasy aspects of the old ones like why was the war started over oil when cars were clearly able to be run off of microfusion cells so could not other things. No more eyeshots and groin shots, yes children not being immortal and the lack of sex or it's implications being used to give a character an advantage or an angle or even a different ending, lacking contributed to this being an inferior game. I never thought it would be possible to make the SPECIAL system feel so vacuous but the fine people at Bethesda made it so. If you feel this game is the greatest thing, let me ask you this can you see the fond memories of this game lasting for you for over a decade and you replaying it dozens of times? Or will the game merely be an entertaining stopover until that new Final Fantasy game or whatever comes out on the market in December.
No fallout game should be beatable in like 20 hours or less the first time out i spent 30 with a lot of side questing and i'm kinda like what else. Yes i will not spoil the ending but here is a trademark ending for the fallout games. Individual endings for each city that can be quite different depending on your actions. That was one of the amazing things about their replay value you felt I have to replay this....now to figure out what would happen if i let the Wrights take over New Reno or can i do the Bishop family quests without impregnating or sleeping with his wife or daughter, still hard to do since either one can give you an awesome item or a new ending. Fallout 1 had those as well like with Necropolis which was it me or did megaton just stink a complete rehashing of Necropolis or whatever the ghoul city in Fallout 1 was i think that's right. I miss having a fully fleshed out character that can do many different things i mean i should not in 15 levels be able to max out 2 weapon types if they were not tag skills. Where was the good small guns, the best we got was the combat shotgun, where's my pancora my gauss. The ending does leave a lot left to be desired and what is with no information on what happens to your npcs after you beat the game, and that some of them just go poof and your expected to not notice or care. Did anyone else find all the npcs to be sorely lacking, the only one I even had compassion for other then wondering what happened was with Fawkes. He was a good npc he's no Marcus but he did good enough I guess. Power armor.... need I say more (loosing stats and even the uber stuff gives you only +2 strength) a side note Bethesda I don't care if i dipped my power armor in the FEV virus and had the master shoot it with his overseer miniguns for 8 hours and Horrigan used his blades of fury on it and it was barely held together, Ranger armor should never, and I mean NEVER be better than it. Did anyone else find it improbable with so many vaults in the DC area yet there was 3 between Near Oregon, San Fran and southern California, another note Bethesda vaults are supposed to be centers of high technology and it just seems surprising that all vaults either went insane or just cloned one guy, i mean I hardly think the President of the United States before I killed him on the Oil Rig had that in mind with his sociological experiments. Every and I quote every good and memorable gun from the first 2 games was gone. The citizens of the Wasteland were lifeless sans about 5 memorable characters.
One more note for you Bethesda and people who claim this is the second coming of Dogmeat well i guess 3rd coming, can any of you please explain to me the game's ability to flesh out unique and memorable pc's other than I'm evil or I'm good. In Fallout 1 and 2 I usually played similar types of characters but playing as a male or female were both unique. For example you could be fine just being the scientist/speaker that could use small guns. The charismatic rake who used her wiles to survive through the wasteland and rob people. The supermutant wanna be big gun energy weapon fighter with an intelligence of 4 and yeah intelligence mattered for the conversation choices. Oh and fast travel...really? with no chance of random encounters, It took me forever to find all of the special random encounters. I do not see this game leaving me still fondly remembering leaving that midget in the Broken Hills well or helping Goris and the deathclaws, defeating the master. I'm sorry but the plot is something that would not even be epic and full of twists and turns for a 5 year old. It's just an unclever rethinking of Fallout 1's plot and it's still not even half as grand and complex. The Enclave is not really menacing in this game other than they vaguely want to kill the "contaminated people of the wastes." A lively debate with a "boss" did not really exist in this the one we get is no President or the Master, finally, Where were my boss monsters period. The only hope is the grain of rice that if interplay ever found the money to make the mmorpg fallout that would be a throwback to the true series. I will say the most shocking thing and something I never thought I would say, Brotherhood of Steel in all of it's non-canonical implications was 10 times the offspring of the Fallout Universe that this programming abortion that is a talentless pile o shit. I will play it until i unlock more just because I hope this game can eventually prove me wrong but I doubt it, I give it a an undated ranking, in terms of a game 7 out of 10, in terms of a Fallout game, 1 out of 10. Congratulations Bethesda you took one of the richest most engrossing RPG experiences to ever have been created and turned it into a flaming pile of brahmin shit, but at least well I assume you did not give the wasteland a new language with "improved" day names. OH thanks for those motorcycle parts and the bikes everywhere and despite my repair skill I do not see a way to be able to drive a motorcycle and they would run on microfusion cells like the car, I mean even oblivion had ponies.
