Here's a quick question- why no horses, donkeys or mules in Fallout. Considering that such creatures could provide both food and power, one would think that a few of these creatures might have survived.

I know, they probably all got eaten, or perhaps they were radiated and dies over time. But if that's your answer than why didn't the Brahmin all get eaten or all die. Possible answer might be that the Brahmin got mutated while the horses, donkeys, mules, etc. did not. But then again, why not horses.

Your thoughts?

Interactive Animals: Good / Useless Animals: Bad

I know this probably isn't the kind of answer you're looking for, but the most likely reason is that the developers didn't want to waste their resources.

Animating sprites is time consuming and an animal that doen't enhance gameplay is low priority. Now if you could use the animal to carry goods or for transportation, then they might include it. But they'd probably just use the brahmin for that.

P.S. That's what Bessie should have been used for!

Dear PNCD-

Yes, that's what I figured too. I mean the idea of using Brahmin as power for caravans makes sense- like using oxen for wagon trains. Yes, I am not sure if a mutant horse would be so difficult to make and I think it would change the game dynamics a bit.

There is a strong "western" flavor in all the fallouts, especially Fallout 2, but I think you can also see it in Shady Sands, the Junkyard, and even the Hub. A horse, or even a donkey, would do a lot to change the transportation issues of the game especially time. If Fallout 3 decides to leave the West Coast and move east, I would imagine the "western" feel of the game would also be enhanced. But would they include horses?
