Rockstar recently made Wild Metal available for download.

I think this is a great idea that more companies should pursue - you get a free game, and Rockstar gets publicity, direct marketing, increases the fan base for a potential sequel, and just comes across as an all around good company that cares about its fans. It's a win-win situation as far as I can see, and I wish more companies would follow this practice with their abandonware.
 
I agree. I remember when I got the shareware for Doom. Awesome! And it was cheap too.

I think this makes for great advertising. Demos widely available are great!
 
The best thing about this is it's the full game for free, not shareware or a demo.
