anyone know anything about building electronics?

Still Mildly Glowing
im trying to build the little light thing that goes on the combat armor helmet. I have a case, 9v hookup, switch, 2 LEDs, and 2 of the appropriate resisters. but i forgot which LED wire the resister hooks up to... any help?

Yeah? And there's only two directions that it can flow in, so what's wrong with just guessing and reversing it if you get it wrong the first time? Some experience with electrical physics labs last year tells me that it shouldn't matter where the resistor is located on a simple loop like that.

yay for my ineptness... after referring to a diagram, i went ahead with the project... and it no workie, so i think im just going to hot-glue the LEDs into the box and say fuck it.

it was no loss, i got everything free from a friend of my father

it does, a diode only alows flow from 1 direction
Well, you weren't asking about wich leg of the diode should go in wich pole of the battery, you were asking in wich side of the diode the resistor should go, and that doesn't matter.

About it not working, try reversing the poles, the try connecting the diode to the battery with a weaker resistor (how many ohms is the one you're using has?) to make sure the resistor isn't draining to much power (improbable, diodes require a very low potence to operate). Also make sure your battery is charged, wouldn't want yourself thinking you're inept in eletronics because you're using a depleted battery (and yes, you are inept).

battery is charged, the resistor is the right type (dont know what the color codes mean, but my dad's friend picked them out, beig that he owns an electronics store.. i trust him)

i think it had to do more with my poor soldering skills
