Anyone know anything about iPods?

My ipod ran out of juice and it give me this message:

"No battery power remains. Please connect iPod to power"

I've had this damn thing plugged into my computer for 2 days and no change. I can't even turn it off or get that screen to change. I surfed around apple's support site but it sucks. I got the damn thing last christmas so I shouldn't have to get a new battery already right?

Anyone got any ideas that don't involve chucking it off a tall building? (i've already thought of that)

do you know anyone with an iPod the same that you can swap batteries with so you can discount the battery?

a lot of appliances come with dodgy second rate batteries

me...

The battery died, iPods are notorious for this. Apple has been forced to institute a replacement policy, where they will install a new battery for free, but I don't know the specifics. Look it up online, outside of the Apple website, perhaps you are covered.

My brother's iPod died after about the same amount of time. Pretty much the entire reason I bought a MP3 player that uses AAA batteries.

Incidentally, any American patriots should refrain from GISing "Hammer" or we'll have a nine page mope on our hands when they get to the 8th result.

Seriously, I've rarely heard anything good about ipods aside from the design (which is largely irrelevant, seeing as it's in your pocket for almost all the time) and the DRM (ie. you can use iTunes).

I've been using a Creative Zen for over a year and it proved to be really decent and reliable.

While I do like my iPod, its life has been tough. It has a giant gash in the top corner, thanks to a fall, despite a nice cushy case. It really is just fragile as hell. Also, when it syncs with my library, it does so very sporadically, often simply choosing to ignore certain items, despite their being compatible. It also has a nasty habit of skipping songs without being told to.

I've got an old Discman, which is held together by duct tape.

Rock on, Wooz.

I'm a hard man to irritate, but all of the "digital rights" issues associated with MP3 players can send me off on a pub rant the likes of which the world has seldom seen.

Try to reset it: put hold on and off a few times then press and hold the Menu and Center buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.

iPod's batteries run out of juice after about a year, which is mentioned in the warranty, thus you can replace your battery for free (unless you have iPod Shuffle or Nano where you get completely new device). But, after two years, which means after one battery replacement, the second battery replacement is charged approximately 100 $.

i have an iPod, nothing but trouble. got it for free so can't really complain but still...

I heard from a MacStore employee who fixed my bro's iPod that when the battery drains past a certain point a USB adapter will not charge it. The direct adapter to the outlet is needed to charge it. Try looking into that. If you have a MacStore in your area, they can probably charge it a little (enough to let you complete the charge via USB later on). This is one area where I feel that Apple kicks Dell's, HP's and most manufacturer's ass: Customer Service.

Yes. Ditch that pieceofshitPod and get yourself a real MP3 player. I recommend the Creative Zen. Haven't heard a single complaint against them.

I was thinking about getting an ipod, purely for the strap that you can use to put it around your arm. (Im a personal trainer and running with things in my pockets irritates me ALOT)

I found out though that the straps cost about $50 australian, perhaps I will have to find an alternative? Or maybe getting a strap and buying something with the same dimensions as an Ipod?

I hear the creative zens are really good.

When the Ipods started I was like oh great another Mac product probably gonna have eight million bugs in it. My experience with Macs were rarely good. They always develop the strangest bugs and quirks.

I have had mine for over 18 months now, and I'm still on the first battery. That said, I don't use too often, but it still lasts well over 10 hours 'til flat.

I dunno. iPod, like the 360.
It will either be very very nice to you (not really),
or give you red lights and die.
My friend got the ladder with his.
On his third iPod.
Faulty batteries.
Been said again and again.

Well I have a 360, hardly ever use it for games. Its more of an overpriced dvd player, but I havent had any problems with it yet. What about the Toshiba Gigabit? They look pretty good.

The iPod has been discovered to be programmed to favor playing songs downloaded from iTunes.

^

Hmm. That sucks. iTunes seems to also favor not working on a PC, for some reason.
