If you convince Arcade to fight with the Remnants during the Second Battle of Hoover Dam against the Legion (following the NCR ending and completing "Eureka!"), it's stated that afterward he's outed as a member of the Enclave, forced out of the Followers of the Apocalypse, and hunted down by bounty hunters and NCR rangers alike, being pushed into the Eastern plains and never heard from again. The Remnants don't seem to receive the same treatment though; at least it's not implied that they are in their ending should you choose to side with the NCR.

My question is why would the NCR choose to hunt down Arcade over the rest of the Remnants, when the Remnants were actually around and actively served for the Enclave during their peak in 2242, while Arcade has proved himself to be a capable doctor within the Followers of the Apocalypse, providing his medical expertise to the more unfortunate in Freeside?

Surely the NCR would want to prioritise those who were actually involved with the Enclave and their war crimes, rather than a descendant? Or do you think this was just perhaps overlooked when writing the endings for the Remnants?

It's part of collective punishment, identity shaming, guilty by association. Perhaps there is even manifesto of "the myth of clean ex-enclave personnel" written somewhere else in NCR states.

But tbh, I feel that kind of ending basically drive you toward independent path if you do want those ex-enclaves found their final home as basically asylum seekers. In a way that fitting for since you could also harbor few of NCR active enemies including BoS and Powder Gangers should you put Meyer as Sherrif.

I see your point on collective punishment, but surely the same would apply to the people who actually played a part in one way or another in the Enclave's war crimes, as well as any potential descendants? We hear that Arcade was hunted down and outed as a member of the Enclave, but the Remnants did not receive the same treatment to our knowledge?

    Remnants ending:
After their bold arrival at Hoover Dam, the Remnants disappeared as quickly as they came. Legends of their power spread throughout the southwest, a reminder of why people once feared the sight of vertibirds in the sky.

    Arcade:
Though Arcade had not hoped for an NCR victory, he was proud of his role in the defense of Hoover Dam against the forces of Caesar's Legion. Unfortunately, when word spread that Arcade was once a member of the Enclave, he was forced out of the Followers of the Apocalypse. Pursued by bounty hunters, NCR rangers, and the Brotherhood of Steel, Arcade pushed deep into the eastern plains and was never heard from again

Basically Arcade was quite well known and already part of a public institution in NCR proper. Unlike his other compatriot which have option to just go blending back and dissappear without trace.

I suppose that does make sense. The Remnants themselves did live in areas not under the eyeful watch of the NCR, so its quite likely they would be able to blend back in without much of a trace, as you suggested. At the end of the day, its probably just best to not let Arcade wear his power armor to Hoover Dam and convince him to give it to you instead, haha.

If judging what Major Knight said about frontier area like Mojave, there is definitely different laws and custom basically. Perhaps there is not even a census or other strict population monitoring (for mundane reason like taxation to surveillance).

Overall it is a good criticism of what could happen to some people, due to their ancestor crime or association despite never being actor.

I've just done this ending last night and I have to say I got a little annoyed that Arcade was treated like that, he didn't want to support the NCR 100% but he went along with me and this was his reward.

    Edit

Oh and just on the subject of Arcade, during the 'Beyond the Beef' quest his hands went all weird

He looks like those Higher Vampires in Witcher 3. Entire fingers being huge claws. Lol, just look at Detlaff and Regis.

That's the Spider Hands glitch. It usually happens when playing the game in higher than 30 fps. You should use NVTF and use it's spider hands fix.

If they'd do that to Arcade then why the heck is Daisy Whitman over in Novac telling strangers openly that she used to be a former enclave vertibird pilot?
She's probably not lying as she references a Fallout 2 encounter, when she tells you she crashed a vertibird near Klamath.
Seems strange that Arcade would suffer this outcome, but a former vertibird pilot wouldn't fear any outcomes from sharing this info.

I retcon this ending myself as the courier would have the ability to shield a personal friend from persecution since they helped the NCR win the war. Turn a blind eye and such.

I'm above 60fps but I can't use mods - I'm on Xbox Series S. It fixed itself next load screen but was funny for a bit.

Maybe they ignored her as a crazy old lady or NCR just never found out about her, we only know (as players) she is not lying as we've played Fallout 2 - the courier never met her before or knew about the Fallout 2 vertibird.

You do have the chance to shield him but I missed it. You need to send him back to Freeside before the final battle (there is only 1 chance for this when he greets you in his family power armour) so that as far as the NCR know's he's still someone that just travelled with you. Probably confused them a lot why a random Vertibird turned up during the dam battle though!
