Are these different types of Russian or just different fonts

Asking because I know there's "Fargus" and "1C" for the Russian-language Fallout. Not sure which of those these two are.

Thanks

Using Google Translate (I know, great translation source):

1st button:
L: "Establish"
R: "Installation"

2nd button:
L: "Play"
R: "Game"

3rd button:
L: "Readme [Untranslated] File"
R: "Information"

4th button:
L: "Establish DirectX [Untranslated]"
R: "DirectX [Untranslated]"

5th button:
L: "Remove"
R: "Remove Game"

6th button:
L: "Exit"
R: "Exit"

Therefore, the meaning, in order:

Install
Play
Information/Readme
Install DirectX
Uninstall
Exit

Given that all the meanings are pretty much the same, but the wording differs, they're probably just different versions and, hence, translations.

I'll guess this is because there was never an official russian version of the game since just a few years ago. So one probably is the old unofficial and the other the official one.

The first is probably the official, because the wording is more 'correct' and they've actually translated the magazine to a Russian text.

Not to mention the fact that the left is "Fallout (TM)", and the right is a bunch of random accented vowels that I can't bother copypasting because English keyboards suck in that department...

Thanks everyone for your input.

So how does a Stupid American such as myself know whether a given Russian version is 1C or Fargus?

I don't entirely understand the difference although what I think I've gathered so far is they are simply named for it being by a different manufacturer/distributor? Which as Lexx said would be one is unofficial whereas the other is official, or is the 1C/Fargus thing something else entirely?

Yes, it basically comes down to what Lexx said. Fargus is the unofficial translation (with a few quirks), while 1C is a company that's based around Eastern Europe which localizes games to the area, officially.

Thank you.

Assuming one had access to both copies, is there any reason someone would play Fargus instead of 1C? i.e., is the official of the two clearly superior? I assume so based on what I can see browsing through the files, but I haven't played either extensively, nor do I speak Russian ;)

Hello, Sduibek

I'm a native russian.

And one of the versions you have there is by unofficial translating company called Russian Project or Русский Проект. I have this version on my hard drive. It is the rarest I think of the three russian localizations in existence. Picture on the right that is. It is based on the earliest build of fallout 1.0 dated on 19 Sept of 1997. There was a 10day latter release by Interplay, which fixed a bunch of stuff, but was also designated 1.0.

The other one is either 1C or Fargus. I'll determine which one is it exactly soon, and update this post for you.

On the side note, in Russia players are devided in which is best 1C (official) or Fargus (unofficial). 1C is more correct and "dry" from language translation point of view, but everything is translated down to the art. While Fargus is more loosely translated, but carries more essence of Fallout humor.

Cheers.

UPDATE: The left screenshot is for 1C version of F1. Fargus autorun goes straight to setup screen.

Interesting! Thanks for that :)

Oh, and I have the Fargus version of F1, if you need some files from the disc.

Just PM me and I'll give you link to mediafire.
