Are you 'experienced?'

Hi!
Has anyone else had this bug?

When I return to the bunker, I usually rotate out one of my characters (Target) for another (Stitch) to get the better deals from the quartermaster.

However, when I rotate Stitch back into my squad I find that he has been getting experience. This despite not taking him on a mission?

What gives? Are these characters gaining experience in the bunker?
Should I just take Stitch out and shoot him?

I have heard mention of the bug but never really looked into it myself. Just wondering if you have the latest patch - I thought that was supposed to resolve it.

I noticed this also when I started a game in 1.13. It seems any character I've ever had in my squad gets experience after I complete a mission, often more than a level's worth. If I put them in my party immediately and pick their skills/perks, the experience would remain. But if I didn't, the characters would revert to their level before getting the extra experience. Therefore I was able to choose up to 5 others who did not participate in the previous mission to get level-ups. I think this is not a bug but a means for you to use more than 6 members without anyone falling too far behind.

As for the recruits I'd never touched, they also leveled, but much more slowly, and I wasn't given a chance to allocate their skill points or perks.

Incidentally, by the end of the game when I spoke to a recruits master after a mission I'd hear the level-up sound about a million times in a row, along with some grunts of pain-- it seems the ghouls who had Fear the Reaper would take damage multiple times when this happened. Some even "died" while outside of the party. They got their HP back and their levels reverted if I didn't put them in the party immediately though.

Sorta strange.

Indeed- I had this problem too, so I took the characters that I didn't want to use, and who kept leveling up, and got them killed. I was worried that the leveling up stole experience from the main party.

The idea was that even tho you still control only your team, the rest of the BOS soldiers also go on other missions (while you are away), hence the experience..

Odin, No I agree that it makes sense that the other players level up. But I am concerned that the levelling up takes experience away from your main NPCs.

I am also thinking this is a glitch. These are old NPCs that you rotated back to the ranks of rhe recruit master right? Are they still getting the experience that would otherwise go to your squad?

No they're not "stealing" experience points from you main character or your crew, they implemented it since it wouldn't make much sense if they never gained any other experience. Since the whole idea is that you only control one squad, but the BOS fraction still have other squads.

Just because you aren't taking them on your stupidly dangerous, 6 soldiers against 5 billion robots/mutants/reavers/whatever, the general hates you missions, doesn't mean they just sit around in the recruit pool smoking or throwing rocks at brahmin or drinking (humans=beer, mutants=motor oil, ghouls=reactor cooling water, deathclaws=eggnog). They're off on patrol, ambush duty, pacification, etc.

Plus: I think that drug addictions wear off while NPCs are in the pool, at least once Rage was addicted to Psycho (which seems more addictive than it was in FO1 or 2) and I dropped him in the pool cuz I didn't want to have to maintain his habit, and when I came back to get him later the addiction was gone. ALso, is addiction shown on the character screen? I can't find it, which is annoying.

Any addictions will wear off eventually, you can travel around on the map awhile passing time until addiction goes away, something like a month game time. If you have no red stats then you aren't addicted any more.
