Armor Ideas

I think there should be more types of armor. First off, I DON'T mean Extra Super Mega Titanium Advanced Power MKIII. There was a lot of armor in Fallout 2 but not many choices. For example, Metal Armor was better than Leather Armor in every way except weight. In Urban Areas, there could be riot armor, which doesn't have as much protection against energy weapons, but has better protection against projectiles. There could also be Special Forces armor, which doesn't have as much protection against bullets, but more against plasma and laser, which the Chinese used ( I'm guessing from all fan fics I read.) I think there should also be different stats for all homemade, non-standarized armor (leather, Metal, etc.), if it won't take up too much cd space.

Let's get one thing straight. I don't want any more high tech armor. Fallout, until now, has always had the same formula for armor, wich pretty much goes like this: sucks > very bad > bad > mediocre > good > better > best. The difference should be smaller and as you said, more specialized to certain situations, even though tesla armor had the anti-tesla function and I don't think everyone on this board has used it.

Fallout 3 should have the standard homemade leather armors, jackets and steel armor (not mkII) and some more progessional stuff like flat-jackets (bulletproof vests) Combat armor, Brotherhood, Advanced Combat (not Power) Armor (I think that was what the Shi were working on).

But what do you exactly mean by different stats, oh, and don't worry about disc space, cuz looking at the current techs and the fact they haven't started yet, I'd say it'll come out on DVD.

Oh i used tesla armor once, it didn't protect against criticals though...

If F3 comes out only on DVD, i will send a letterbomb to BIS mainoffice...

Yep, I agree take away the Big and Powerful armors and put in Kevlar armors (bullet-proof).

Reckon there should be spray shops or something where the colour of your armour can be changed, that way with a high outdoorsman skill your character will be harder to hit as they "merge" with the background of similar colour. I.e black armour means better camo in the night and so on.

Oh YES, I want RED! or no, wait PINK! Ah crap, don't mind me, it's a nice idea I just took it the wrong way and my backspace button is jammed , so... He! I could be a good idea for recognizing raider clans and gangs, every gang has it's particilar armor design! Like the Khans grey/red+skull, the BoS silver/bleu+logo, and so on.

That way if you run into any in the desrt the buggers won't shoot you.

War paint

This way you could have your entire party wear the same colours. I found it hard to believe that people recognized you everywhere just like that. However having you armor painted will 'place joy in the hearts of those who admire you and fear in the hearts of your enemies.' and as we tribals say, 'a fearfull heart just tastes better!'

Hell, let's even go further on that, let's say decorating your armors with trophees, like the skull of your best opponent so far on your shoulder (not very good for the diplomatic typed, they can stick peace treaties to their armor ;-) ) Or even painting your car in the same fashion. But.. that ain't got nothing to do with armors.

RE: War paint

Sorry all, I got this one in late, but it's in regards to the remark made earlier about black armor providing better night camo. Wrong. Belive it or not, black stands out better at night than green would. Think about it. There's bareley enough light to see by, but you can still sorta see, then all of a sudden, you notice a totaly black shape? Black works really well in shadows, but out in the waste it would stand out. Sorry, just had to put my 2 cents in!

My opinion

Leave the Power Armors but make them, for example, vulnerable against Pulse Grenades!
And, about paint: it would be cool if you could vary armor's color but it takes looooooots of cd space (imagine, they have to draw all sorts of movements, incl. walking, running, changing guns, dying with all sorts of guns and from all 6 points of view and with all different armors with all different colors! crazy!). So, ana3, you may already buy a detonator and TNT...

RE: My opinion

Well, if they use a 3d engine like they probably will, it'll be a lot easier to change paint schemes. It wouldn't take up too much space. It'd be like the one for Red Baron II, where all you have to do is export the image, and change it from paint!

No 3D

Seems, there will be no 3D in Fallout 3 since Chris Taylor said on official message board (http://interplaygames.com:8080/~fallout) that they will use engine for Fallout Tactics in Fallout 3. And Fallout Tactics doesn't have 3D engine (the only 3D function is real-time lightening but it's not what we're talking about). So we don't have much chances to get Fallout 3(D) and colored armors. :-(

RE: No 3D

Please, a direct link to the message would be nice. I don't see it saying anywhere that FO3 wouldn't be 3D. There's a message where Chris Taylor says there won't be a 1st person 3D Fallout, but that's not the same thing.

I don't remember

I don't remember exactly. This could be in the old Tactics forum or in the new one. Chris Taylor was asked what would BIS take from BOS to Fallout 3 and he replied that they were going to use BOS engine in it. And, since BOS is not fully 3D, Fallout 3 will likely be the same.

RE: I don't remember

If that's true then I shall be avoiding FO3 cause from what I see the BOS engine is only a slighty enhanced version of the FO2 engine and when FO3 comes out it'll be ancient and even more utdated than it is now. To use it is to admit that BIS are just damned lazy and letting their previously high standards slip. It would also mean that the objects are yet again to damned hard to see when they're on the floor - maybe I should play with a magnifying glass.

Did you see Road Warrior?

I would like to see Football padding used as armor.

befoe i read every message id like to poiint out that instead of having set values for homemade armor you can have random stat generator for armor. such as DR=10-16 DT=4-20 and wieght=dt+DR/2. ok? i mean that would be way easy to impliment into the game instead of having everything precoded into the game. i mean you could even have it render the armor values when loading a certain city. it would be that easy.

RE: My opinion

or what you could do is blue screen the armor color and add the outline. so then you add the color you want. i mean in alpha centauri they didnt render everyunit with every square. they simply had the unitover the terrain square. what you could do is make the armor color s in the shape of the armor outline, then overlay shadows and texture, and then you could just adjust the color. id think it would be that easy.
