armor sprite tutorial

First time out of the vault
hi guys, I'm new here... I don't know if I'm just lazy or I just couldn't find some simple and decent armor sprite tutorials out there, can anyone give me some tidbits about it... I was thinking of making leather armor look like maybe raider armor or reaver armor, is that possible? and how can I use those ".spr" files actually? thanks in advance, sorry if I'm being pushy lol

oh sorry, I wasn't clear... I was thinking of just changing the looks of the armors... like I'm wearing leather armor but it would look like raider armor...

rename raider armor to leather armor and that's it? sorry if I can't test it right now, I'm not at home lol, thanks thanks, I'll try that later

If you want to change the looks of the leather armor, copy a spr you like and rename it to LeatherFemale.spr or LeatherMale.spr~

oh okay, so I'm assuming if I rename for example raider armor to leather armor anyone wearing leather armor will have the raider armor .spr right? what about those custom armors you guys made, I happen to see some of them, will it work with them too? thanks thanks

Yes, if the people are normal not special race they will change. Custom armors or .spr will work too, but most custom .spr I made not have all animation like crouch and prone~

True, you would need to make sure the sprite is playable. You could do this with Sprite Creator. Load up the sprite and make sure you have all the animation sequences. You can easily tell which sprites are playable and which ones are not, playable sprites are the ones that have sequences for Tactics weapons and have lots more sequences. Critters and whatnot just have basic attack animations and lots less images.

Or you could just test one if this all bothers you, just back up your originals and go NUTS! Works for me sometimes!

Good luck.

thanks a lot guys, works great... it seems the assault armor have complete animation sequences, can I add it as another armor and use it in game? or the only way is to just rename it again?

You would need to mod the game just a tad bit.

Here is a step by step instruction on how to add new armor to the game
  1. Start by downloading and installing FT Improver.
  2. Go to your Fallout Tactics game directory, you should see a new folder called Improver_data go into it and open ArmourTypes.txt now edit the example definitions to your likings or add more under example definitions to add new armors.
  3. When finished editing the ArmourTypes.txt save it and download this pack i mad so you can edit the armors entity files and use them for examples, to install just extract the core folder out of the .ZIP file and merge it with yours.
  4. Now go to your Fallout Tactics game directory and open FT Improver.exe, you should see a blank button, click on it and you will see a list of editors, click on Entity Editor, click File then click on Open, find the armor folder in the items folder so you can use one of the original armors as a example to work with, first thing edit your Armour Type you will find the armor you made in the ArmourTypes.txt.
  5. Next part is easy and fun, using the Level Editor! once you start click File/Open you will need to find your campaign maps, they are in /campaigns/missions/core/ if you can't figure out how to add items on the ground by your self i will make a small step by step tutorial for ya, and by the way make sure you click save after editing the maps!
  6. After that just play like normal but you must run FT Improver.exe to start your game or else your armors will not work.

You don't have all the maps to edit nor do you have many entitys to edit, but i wouldn't want to expose to much to you and spoil your campaign unless you request all of the files, oh that reminds me, you will need to restart your campaign progress every time you edit or add something, if you need any help with any part of the tutorial just say so, i tried to keep it simple and short.
