Artificial voices in games

We all know a major problem when it comes to non-American and non-English games is the language. Not only is the dialogue often incoherent and very "All your base", but the voice overs tend to be very crappy too (Silent Storm, Spellforce...).

Why not use artificial computer voices? There are some really nice ones today that sound more or less natural. Of course, this wouldn't be a problem if the developers hired English-speaking people to write the dialogues and do the voice overs, but most don't, as it seems.

I was thinking more about non English-speaking modmakers though, because they don't have the financial capacity to do such a thing. In this case, computer voices (and Internet translators) could be a lifesaver. I'm actually kinda worried who will make the voices for my mod (after all, I can't do all of them, especially not the female ones). Thoughts?

I was really disappointed when the remake of Resident Evil for the GC changed Chris's voice!

I mean come on, who didn't love the line....

"Barry.........wheres............Barry.....?"

Damn those good voice overs!

Mohrg

I don't think so.

The voices are quite good, but a good actor/actress is a lot better. The only exception is a bad actor => see Polish voices in FoT.
