ATI Radeon HD 5970

I've got HD4870 in my case, bought it about a year ago. Can only praise it, works like charm. Never had any issues in new games and running all of them usually maxed out. If 5970 is any good as this, I can only recommend it.

Not sure about the performance of the new series though.

I wouldn't buy hardware on Amazon. Dunno how it is in other countries, but in germany I wouldn't suggest it. There are a lot other shops where you get the stuff cheaper.

From what i've seen they are insane. The 600 Australian dollar card eats the 2000 dollar nVidea equiv alive.

Very, very powerful cards.

Is anybody planning on getting one!
I won't be having money for a new PC for some time to come.
your thoughts about this GPU...post them here!

What for? My 4850 is enough to max out mostly any new game, and i haven't had any fps issues since Crysis.

Most PC games today are console orientated anyway, so it might be some time before the graphics craze starts rolling again.

Yeah. It seems like most of them are developed for Consoles then ported to PC, so even if there is a graphics craze, PC Hardware won't have a problem with something that's meant to be cutting edge on consoles.

I sooooooo agree with this one dude. Some games actually need good graphics cards just because they are bad ports of the console version. i know...it's very sad. I wonder when we will see a game that surpasses crysis in terms of graphics. Rage maybe? nah...

Cryengine 3 is fully console compatible, meaning it might not look even look as good as the original.

Uh, what?

No. That's not how it works.

it's rarely worth buying the latest cards when they are brand spanking new. very few (if any) of the games currently on the market need all that firepower. and prices on cards go down by quite a lot after just a short while.

Normally yeah, they can just amend the texture resolution like they are doing with Assassins Creed 2, but Cryengine uses Shaders for everything. Unless they tone them down for a console, i don't see how the console hardware will run it smoothly. I guess they can have different settings, but i'm not sure i trust EA Enough to have differing shaders for the port.

Crysis 2 will just probably look much worse on consoles. From what I've seen of Cryengine 3, it looks very similar to Cryengine 2, so I assume it's pretty much the same engine just optimised for consoles.
I hope they don't eliminate things like leaning in PC version of Crysis 2 though, I enjoy the first game and expansion cause it's one of few recent shooters that still feels like a real PC game, despite health regen. I wouldn't even need better graphics in Crysis 2, they are already awesome enough and my 8800GTS 512 is able to run it with most important settings like shaders on very high, which eliminates any thought of card upgrade in near future.
