atmospheric music

I'm looking for something very atmospheric and with a post-apocalyptic feel. Not really a song, like was suggested in another thread, but just music, or little singing. I already have some Godspeed you! Black Emperor, Kraftwerk and aphex twin. I'm having a hard time finding anything suitable.

Boards of Canada.

I think you'll like 'em. Not sure which specific album to recommend, but I've been mostly listening to "The Campfire Headphase". I'm curious about their older stuff though.

Try some of Devin Townsend's works. Mainly Ocean Machine and Infinity.

try looking for something by kenji kawai (he did the soundstrack for ghost in the shell)

to be honest, high budget animes tend to have some of the best atmospheric music ive been able to find, as well as high budget games.

american mcgees alices has some great atmosphere music by chris vrenna of nine inch nails. marilyn manson also has done some interesting music scores for movies and games that are nothing like his normal style and have a dark atmosphere to them.

cowboy bebop has one of the best soundtracks to anything ive heard, and has a sort of rugged space western mixed with blues feel to it, but that could work well in a post apocalyptic style.
(or just anything by the seatbelts or yoko kanno)

lost keys from the newest Tool album is an intro track that has some pretty interesting subtle music playing in the background, and is VERY atmospheric in anture.

go check out "a celebration of the death of man" and its follow up track "and hte great cold death of the earth" by Aggaloch

the band Adagio has some very decent instrumentals that play out pretty well, but they may be too dominant to be considered "atmospheric". maybe with a little bit of very simple editing htey could be softened appropriately.

would a cyber-punk theme work for a post apocalyptic theme to you?
if so check out Alec Empire ;)
i suggest the song "make em bleed". played at a low volume itd be a great background noise.

apocalyptica. all of their stuff.
i mainly suggest "beyond time" and "path"

also, pick up some of the acoustic intro sets by arch enemy, they have a great atmosphere going on, and its nothing too dominant.

"Day 1: Vigil" by Ayreon.

lol, thats mostly just from the "A's" of my collection and a few songs on my current playlist. if you like the suggestions, or needsome help finding hte songs, jsut ask and ill help ya with more. ive got a pretty massive collection of obscure and popular bands and styles of music.
gosh

:( i know.
i jsut now realized you guys had that mod on this forum.
im not a very good typist./

oh man this response is dripping with irony,.

Check out Sunn O))) and ISIS.

Both bands are a little bit on the heavy side, but very atmospheric.

Hey if you guys know of any struggling artists that want exposure for their music let me know. I would love to put some atmospheric music in OS.

Silent Hill 1 soundtrack.
It's not really post-apocalyptic like, but it is pretty atmospheric in the sense and feel of rusted metal all around you.
I dunno, I like it.

One thing no one has mentioned yet (and I may well get blasted for suggesting) is that any popular song you might like to use sans lyrics can usually be found for karaoke. Yes, I know karaoke is japanese for tone deaf. However, a lot of the songs have no or very faint lyrics, which with a decent mixing program can be either removed or down played until unnoticable. No I don't do karaoke myself, but I have a friend who DJ's and a lot of her music CD's are from her job, so I've heard no-vocals versions of a lot of stuff.

Oh, and check out the music on the old Playstation game Vanguard Bandits, if you can find it. A few of the scores for that might be just what you're looking for.

godspeed is one of my favorite bands, i strongly suggest the japanese band mono, & the american bands: child forgives and creates, & do make say think.. all of which can be found on myspace for some sounds. also all of them are instrumental, have to admit though godspeed does give the sense of a lurking evil that not many bands can achieve

It may not be what you're searching for but you should download and check out my compilation album. Music done for two post apocalyptic mods...

awesome work MrBumble, a little bit TOO fallout-y maybe though. But that's just me, keep up the good work! I love it!

Ry Cooder. Very suitable for the desolate, barren atmosphere we see in the Fallout games. I suggested his songs in the Fallout 3 music thread. I've only heard about 3 of his songs (not any lyrics as far as I know), but what I've heard was good.

For example, Cooder made the music for the movie "Last Man Standing", with Bruce Willis (I recommend downloading the soundtrack). Mostly guitars, with a nice western ring to it.

Im not quite sure for apocalyptic, but I have found quake soundtrack very very atmospheric
