AV Club and which games should you play post show- thoughts?

I posted this elsewhere but it might be better placed here. The AV Club posted a thread on the Fallout Games and which should be watched based on the show. What are your thoughts?

Personally, I found the AV club's comments, generally seemed to be style over substance and while I understand that Fallout 1 might not be to everyone's liking (or Wasteland for that matter), personally, i find it hard to understanding Fallout without out starting with Fallout 1.

They're absolutely correct that Fallout 1 is the least fun one of them to play and inferior to 2.

Fallout 1 is fantastically written but the gameplay is a nightmare.

Fallout 1 and 2 have basically the same exact gameplay, Fallout 1 only lacks a few quality of life improvements that Fallout 2 had. The original Fallout's gameplay is so iconic that it still impacts the way RPGs are designed today.

Except if you hate RTS.

Which I do.

Fallout isn't RTS, it's turn based in combat only, otherwise it's a normal isometric roleplaying game.

how are you this consistently wrong about everything? you should check your home for a gas leak.

Like I said, my dream project would be a remake of Fallout 2 with 3's engine.

Porn stars and Hubology!

Maybe Fallout 1 if they could do it.

And in the context of hating the movement and combat, it still applies.
But Fallout 1 and 2 are still nearly identical in terms of gameplay. How can 1 be so much less fun to play then? If the QOL improvements are that much of a must, use the Et Tu mod.
Or is it less about the gameplay and more about the tone? Yeah, Fallout 1 is definitely more serious in that regard. Doesn't make it less fun to play tho, not necessarily...

While the same game, I find Fallout 1 to be the better overall package.
My problems with F2 is that it suffers from all the same issues that F1 had, with the glaring issue that it’s a lot longer.

I’ll be honest, while I loved F2 and I look forward to playing it again, I will admit I did nearly give uo towards the end as I found those problems to ge so frustrating.

Regardless, the only Fallout you’ll really need to play after the Show is New Vegas.
That game itself is structured like a TV show in on itself.

Fallout 1, 2 , and New Vegas are all I need.
Agreed. But then, it's only been about 10 years and I still have yet to bring New Vegas to a conclusion. My excuse, I am currently looking for a key in World of Pain.

CT Phipps- I am sorry to say this but Bradylama is correct that you are wrong about this.

He means using the mouse and clicking. which you do in a Fallout 3 anyway. Unless we are dealing with a controller babby.

Yeah but he loves Fallout 2. I guess the goofy jokes make it so much better.

Yes, because Fallout 1 is sooooo fucking serious. The ridiculous humor in that game is amazing, up to and including the Low Intelligence route, Harold, Iguana Bits, the Super Dumb Mutants, and the cackling Snidley Whiplash Morpheus.

For me, New Reno is what gives Fallout 2 the edge.

It's not even like I don't love Fallout, it's just I love Fallout 2 a lot more.

It's like people who say, "The Enclave has less depth than the Master." Which is ridiculous.
