Bah! Still getting illegal operations

I just downloaded the patch and I thought everything would be groovy, but newp. What happens is the music and sound is very stuttery...I tried to lower the sound quality and I tried to turn all the volume off, but when I did that, it just did the illegal operation thing. So...it does the illegal operation randomly *and* when I try to turn the sound off. Any suggestions?
 
did you try different sound settings? i.e. (dolby, two speaker,eax, blah,blah,blah)If that's not the problem try downloading the new version of direct x. I think it's 7. as far as the game crashing. I still have this problem also
 
Yep...I tried to adjust the sound settings and I installed DirectX 8.0a from the FOT disc...any other theories? :'(
