Ballerium interview

HomeLanFed is reporting that ExperienceGaming have conducted an interview with Eyal Netanel (Co-Founder of Major), who is working on Ballerium and here's a snibblet:
XG: What kind of benefits do you think will result from the collaboration?

Eyal: Firstly, there’s funding. Now we all know that Interplay is in a very difficult position right now, in fact Herve (Interplay CEO) says so himself in the most recent quarterly press release. However, I am sure he will be able to find the resources and support us as long as we need to bring the game to market. Then there’s also Interplay’s name and experience that will definitely help us in the long term. In fact, just by announcing this collaboration we have already received tremendous media exposure. Interplay has some very important know-hows with regards to getting games onto the shelves, and we intend to use that expertise when time comes.
Riiiight....

Funding?!?!? From what? That rock that sits outside of Interplay's new "headquarters"?

Give me a break.

A Match Made in Gaming Hell

Spotted in a thread at RPGCodex, this interview with one of Ballerium's few remaining developers reveals a lot of the background behind the vaporware publishing deal. Ironic enough, it's at a place called "Experienced Gaming".

Choice cuts follow. They are hilarous:

Eyal: Currently there’s just a few of us left. Ever since the Taiwanese publisher that was funding the project retreated (dun, I wonder why - Rosh), we were slowly running out of money until finally we couldn’t even pay for our own office about two months ago, and so we decided to freeze development until further funding could be obtained.

Hey, just like Interplay, and they couldn't afford to develop any further titles at this time.

Firstly, there’s funding. Now we all know that Interplay is in a very difficult position right now, in fact Herve (Interplay CEO) says so himself in the most recent quarterly press release. However, I am sure he will be able to find the resources and support us as long as we need to bring the game to market.

So how can he save Majorem when he hasn't been able to do anything with his three companies, all of which he certainly has proven he is experienced at burying them?

This next is the piece de resistance:

Then there’s also Interplay’s name and experience that will definitely help us in the long term. In fact, just by announcing this collaboration we have already received tremendous media exposure. Interplay has some very important know-hows with regards to getting games onto the shelves, and we intend to use that expertise when time comes.

First, Interplay's name is dirt in the industry, thanks mostly to Herve. We have seen how he has experience getting games to the shelves with the fine titles of Fallout: POS, Fallout 3, and Baldur's Gate 3. Second, who are they talking about? Interplay might have Herve, someone to work on the books, and a secretary. All of their "experience" went out the window when Herve couldn't pay it, yet the Ballerium developers and betatesters are too far into denial and desperation to believe anything other than suddenly, Herve can make a game pop from their collective arses.

Oops, I was just working on a news post about this very thing. I'll leave it up to you which stays, Odin.

Ha. Ha. Ha.

But why are we even covering this pathetic game now? It's not post-apoc, it's not an RPG, and though it's a source of pure comedy golde, I don't see why we should give it so much attention.

now now now, let's not get all negative and cynical gentlemen...

i'm sure Herve will gladly donate some brainfarts...

We're covering Ballerium on the sole merit that it is just another cattle car in the great Interplay trainwreck. As such, we don't give a shit at their every version release, or if they go on to more intelligent and likely routes that include making something that publishers are interested in or self-publish. Only news concerning their self-delusional spree of smoking camel shit with Herve has our interest for now.

In that case, carry on.

Hey Rosh, any chance you could go register on their forums and have some fun getting in their face with facts ?

I think trying to explain even such simple facts to those numbskulls would be an exercise in futility. They are so rooted in their naivette that they would rather send their Jewish golems after you than accept reality.

The painful sobering will come soon enough for them, and then they can resignedly join the official Fucked Over By Herve Club. While they are there maybe BioWare folks can help them master the art of superficial game design.

I simply don't get how anyone could be that stupid, let a lone a company. How could any one think IPLY could help them publish jack squat???

I know they're desparate but jumpin jebus, any one with access to the internet knows IPLY has no $$$

It's simple, their game was put on hold. IPLY was probably their only hope.

My education feels offended by that statement about Jews and your throwing Israeli and Jews into the same mincer.

Uhm... yeah.

Anyway. Those guys did reply to a post in which someone tried to talk some sense into them and they said they knew what position Interplay was in but that they basically had to choose between Interplay and instant death.

While the optimism of their newswriters might be a survival instinct the happy dance of their fanbois can only be explained as the consequence of gobbling truckloads of retard pills.

When I was Interplay, and the deal with Vivendi first came through, I laughed and warned my supervisor that Interplay would regret that decision. As a former Vivendi employee, I had seen first hand how rotten they were. Not a single person believed me. In fact, they looked at me rather funny.

A year later, as Vivendi had screwed Interplay time and time again, nobody was laughing.

Some people refuse to listen. They see only what they want.

Dealing with that lying, cheating, double-dealing, slimy frenchman, or death. I would take the latter instead of the former.

A "Well, the game is fucked" would have certainly been better than "Let's make sure the game is fucked by signing onto the first bankrupt publisher that would return our calls".

Smart man.

And Rosh. I think its that Herve was the ONLY person to return their calls............

PS, you don't have to reply to every single post.. Just FYI.. At least not with those kinds of remarks, it's more spamming then contribution.
