Best computer for gaming?

What computer/model do you recommend for gaming and patches/mods ect, as I'm going to start playing the 1st and 2nd Fallout and things like Deus Ex. If possible, Windows XP would be preferred.

The best computer of 2001 (now $30 in your local classifieds) will do you quite swell for such games, unless you mean the newer Dues Ex.

to be honest, you'd be hard pressed to find a working computer that can't run those games these days. find something used or buy cheap parts to build your own. buying a new computer from Dell or something similar would be a hell of a waste if you only want to be able to play such old games.

Old retro machines are always fun.

If you can't get an original, they do make retro-styled machines with modern parts and software.

But as for the OP, yeah used computers are okay, but I'd look into refurbished units for something on the cheap but capable of running those older games. That way you still have some quality control.

If legal in your area, go dumpster diving at local businesses. Try telemarketers, call centers, any place that has 80+ computers is bound to have one break and thrown in the trash needing nothing but a cheap part or some love and attention. That's how I got my first computer ten years ago and it ran fallout wonderfully. Hell, just go to craigslist and look for someone giving away old computers.

EDIT: The comp you need will be easy to come by but to play deus ex you might need to upgrade the video card. 30 bucks max.
