Bethesda angering even more fans?

Bethsoft is really pro at how to have a good relationship with the community and fans.

fucking morons...

Don't worry, maybe they'll make Fallout 3 simplistic enough so we won't need the manuals anyway :D

Ah well, at least it will replace my nightmares of walking around some fucking big landscape, and seeing ugly people only saying 'Welcome to Morrowind'.

So will this affect tutorial's and game guides like we host hear on NMA? if so I would be a major blow to the modding community.

I think this just covers materials that Bethesda published, nothing to do with independant guides.

Still, this is really a stupid asshole move on their part.

Yes, it is, but the only rational explanation for this, imo, could be that Bethesda are planning to release, Arena, Daggerfall, Battlespire & Redguard, some time soon, in a box of sorts for sale in the retail market.

The other explanation is that Bethesda is rather cuckoo when it comes to fan communication. Eg. the Star Trek game, blacklisting the Codex.

Is that because we own the IP to a document that we have written even though the subject of the, document is derived from some one else's IP? or have I got it wrong?

The copyright to anything is owned by the person who creates it, unless they transfer the copyright. What it's based on is completely irrelevant.

Thank's for clearing that up, I only asked because I was wondering what if Bethesda decided it wanted all the document's we have hear on NMA pulled because it infringed on there IP rights, for instance if some one created a free guide to Fallout 3 could they use the argument that it would damage the sales of a official game guide produced by them?

They could use that argument, but it wouldn't hold up in court. There is no precedent for this, they have no special rights to publishing a document based on their games and as long as these guides are published for free it'd probably fall under Fair Use as well.

Other than that, the only way a guide would be infringing on their copyright would be if the guide was based on *their* guide.

Ok I get what your saying now as long as it's free of charge and it's not plagiarised from "their" guide it's OK and they can't have it pulled, but what can they do if you start using quotes from the games manual such as weapon descriptions, Screen shot's ect would they then have a chance to have the guide pulled as you are using their copy writed material?

As I said: if you copy stuff they published in their guide, then it's infringement of copyright (although depending on the amount copied it might fall under Fair Use). If you take screenshots yourself then there is no problem.

OK thanks I just seems odd that you can get done for plagiarism but if you use screen shot's it's a little bit of a grey area.

Thank's

I don't think this changes anything regarding our mod community and files. And Bethesda is in the process of changing the way they interact with the fansites, we'll have to wait and see what they intend to do, but the tone coming from there seems friendly enough.
