Editor to be Available in December; Downloadable Content coming for January, February, and March

November 25, 2008 (ROCKVILLE, MD) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax Media company, today announced plans to make both its editor and downloadable content available for its award-winning game, Fallout® 3 in the coming weeks. The official editor for Fallout 3, called the G.E.C.K. (Garden of Eden Creation Kit), will be available for free download in December and will allow Games for Windows® users to create and add their own content to the game. In addition, the first official downloadable content, Operation: Anchorage, will be available exclusively for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows® in January, and more downloadable content coming in February and March.

“We’ve always seen the original world of Fallout 3 as a foundation for even more content. Some created by us, and a lot more created by users,” said Todd Howard, game director for Fallout 3. “It’s fun to create your own character, but it can be equally fun to create your own adventures. We can’t wait to see what the community does with the G.E.C.K.”

The release of the G.E.C.K. provides the community with tools that will allow players to expand the game any way they wish. Users can create, modify, and edit any data for use with Fallout 3, from building landscapes, towns, and locations to writing dialogue, creating characters, weapons, creatures, and more.

Three downloadable content packs will be coming to Xbox 360 and Games for Windows Live starting in January that will add new quests, items, and content to Fallout 3.

Operation: Anchorage. Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.
The Pitt. Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.
Broken Steel. Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March.

I've given up hope already. The ConstKit can't fix FO3, it's damaged beyond repair. Someone put it down.

Call of Duty : After the Fall !

I've got to admit, I did a bit of a double-take reading that one. This is Fallout, it's not supposed to... You know what, fuck it. I should've expected that. Let's make Fallout a war game. That'll make it even MORE popular.

This made me very, very, very sad. I didn't think Bethesda could alienate the Fallout fanbase any more than it already has. I was wrong.

Anyway, I am really hopeful for what the modding community can do with the CS though. It's the best chance any of us who "kinda like" the game are going to get.

They don't want to see what the community will create. They basically want them to finish the game for them. I wonder if they are gonna pay people for it?

We're not the Fallout fanbase anymore. They are.

We're just those Glittering gems of hatred over at NMA.

Of the three at least this doesn't cry out "I'm going to be shit" my tears of despair let up a little as I contemplate this one.

I agree. With the release of this pack, maybe we can at at least come up with something more along the lines of a real Fallout game.

OH..NOOOOOOOO
DAMN YOU BETHESDA !
now...its..nooooooooooooooooo....they cant..they cant...not the originals..dont butcher it anymore.
This is the biggest middle finger to the original fans so far.
What next ? "raid vault 13 as super mutant" ? "kill the master with fatman" ?! *sigh* i guess it was to be expected, they had to do this.
At least the CS will be available, so old fans can try to fix the game.

The amount of work necessary to mod Fallout 3 into any kind of game even resembling the originals is just titanic.
You would basically have to strip out everything and restart from scratch, while perhaps being able to keep most of the 3D models, textures, and some of the side quests structures.
Maybe some scraps of voiced dialouge can also be salvaged.
The main story would also have to be removed with red hot pliers and thrown in the nearest incinerator and rewritten by someone who isn't on a constant high from sniffing paint thinners.

Kudos to those brave souls making the attempt!

Well i will stand by my decision to not buy this piece of shit until some modder save it. I believe it will be around nov.2009 when the mods accumulate to fix all the crap like barbie doll houses, poor textures, lousy dialogue, nuclear cars, teddy bear launchers, etc.

I trust the modders to make Fallout 3 more Fallout (they almost saved Oblivion), I just don't think they can save the poor engine and the main quest.

I'd be curious if there's any established history in Fallout1/2 of a battle to liberate Anchorage or any part of Alaska? Ausir? :)

Also, things like this don't make sense unless there's some kind of nuclear shield (i.e. Dune). I mean one side takes Anchorage, the other side nukes their army... Nuclear conflict wouldn't play out like trench warfare.
