Big Download Interview with Pete Hines

Morbus

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
Pete Hines answered a few questions from Big Download. Here's a snippet:
Many fans of the first two Fallout games have wondered if Bethesda Softworks will retain at least some of the spirit of the original titles in Fallout 3? Do you believe you and the development team have accomplished this task?

We certainly have, but our feelings on that aren't any different now than the were before. It's something we've worked hard to include and maintain, but at the same time everyone is entitled to their own opinion on what that is and whether we've retained it, so we'll have to see once the game comes out. (...)

Some people have actually wondered if Fallout 3 is going to be a "short" game compared to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion yet it seems like it will be a very lengthy game experience. Why do you think people are so concerned about Fallout 3's length?

No idea. When there are any number of games out there that take 8, 10, 12 hours to finish, and you've got one you can play for over 100, I don't think I'd be concerned about it being "short." We have people here who have been playing the game for literally years and still are seeing things they'd never seen before, so I don't think we're too concerned about whether there's enough to see and do.

judging by the comments of the people who've seen footage and/or played the game, that's a big no no.

I wish a Beth employee would actually say what aspects of FO1 & 2 that they think have been kept.

"We kept allot of Original Fallouty aspects...Like the Brotherhood of Steel, those guys are great. O and the Enclave. And Dogmeat! Dogmeat is great and he is one the greatest aspects of Fallout. Nothing says Fallout Game like Dogmeat!" - TheGM pretedning to be Pete pretending to know what he is talking about.

Steel be with you, Noble Lizardman Lord!

These two weeks are going to be interesting, particularly confronting "exclusive reviews" (whoops, OXM) to actual, in-game footage.

I wonder how Pete and Todd are going to perform damage control.

This has got to kill a lot of what the exclusives were going to do for them

They'll probably just ignore it. There isn't much that they can do.

Besides, most 360 users will think that it's a new shooter and buy it anyway.

That is absolutely sad.

I remember being a teenager, and being selective about what I played. Of course, there were more genres to choose from then MMOs and FPS.

We didn't leave a stone unturned in making sure folks knew about the game.

Has anyone actually seen a commercial on tv once? I'd like people to play this either to 1) enjoy the fallout universe, if its good or 2) be miserable with me.
