Bioshock special edition figurine.

the thing to note is that they asked the community if they wanted something special & they listened to the answer.

still, eversince buying HL2 Collectors Ed i'm terribly negative towards any special edition or collectors edition crap.

Bioshock looks great, but... not falling for that again. i'll buy the standard ed.

Good point, I just have a good feeling about what they're trying to do.

Reminds me when I got a t-shirt for a game I bought back in the day.

Had a big ole Black Isle logo with the Fallout 2 emblem.

Why?

HL2 collectors edition:
- metallic case
- t-shirt (very badly printed & sown, busted after you wear it 2 times)
- art book (haha, right. tiny booklet with simply all the art you could find on the official website. no extras or big drawings whatsoever)
- plastic slim dvd case with HL2 dvd

and that's about it. totally not worth the money...

I'm currently wearing my two and a half years old HL2 collector's edition t-shirt and it's still just fine. The print's a bit worn out, but otherwise it's in good shape.

But yeah, the HL2 Collector's Edition could've be a lot better. Well, at least I got Half-Life: Source and CS: Source...

I reckon that CE would have been worth it if they'd included Raising the Bar, which is a pretty interesting read, if you are indeed a half-life fan. If i remember correctly that crappy little art book was a few pages out of RtB, and the first section of the Prima official guide thrown together.

HL2 was probably the wrost collectors edition I ever purchased, lame t-shirt (XL only) & the Prima Book was ridiculously small for ridiculously big box (Carton box). The only good thing is that it came on DVD's.

After watching several gameplay videos of Bioshock I've come to the conclusion it is little more than a Doom 3 clone. Lots of shooting in dark corridors and scripted events inside a linear story. Doesn't feel like System Shock at all. Sure, it's a cool setting, but if the gameplay isn't engaging I'd never get past three hours.

whatever... to each his own but don't go say stupid things like that.

no one claimed it to be? it aint System Shock 3...

Which is absolutely why you won't find the phrase "spiritual successor to System Shock" all over the internet. Not to mention the word "BioShock" itself, which is obviously not meant to invoke System Shock.

I'm worried about BioShock myself, from the materials available, it does consistently look like the developers have eroded the more sophisticated elements. There are constant hints of concessions to the lowest common denominator, and though Levine is quick to defend the game, these hints pop up again and again. For example, I read in one gaming magazine yesterday of a quest compass so the player doesn't get lost.

We will see how it has been handled on release. However, at this point I don't share the enthusiasm that many seem to have about the game. There have been too many indications of concessions to the mainstream.

Tannhauser, afaik Levine never said it was the spiritual successor. sites assumed. and it's rather obvious he's not going for a copy of System Shock.

i think we can only be happy that he however does assert that there will be autoaim crap in the console stuff, but there wont be in the pc version. also that there will be different interfaces for both versions etc. this gives me a rather good feeling, since most devs simply dont bother with that kind of stuff anymore.

I remember them specifically saying the UI in both console and PC versions will be identical.

There are very substantial gameplay differences between the two versions. Look, our heritage is PC. We’ve taken the differences between the two platforms very seriously. We look at history, we look at other PC/console games like Deus Ex 2. We realized that you need to treat them differently. Not only in terms of the balance, but also in the interface. We have a very different interface for the PC version of Bioshock, using much more drag and drop functionality. In terms of the gameplay, we’ve rebalanced all of the enemies to make the PC version harder. We’ve taken Softlock out of the PC version. You need this “locking on” with a console, because it’s so much harder to aim at something with a game pad, but you don’t need it on a PC.
only thing i even had to do is scroll to the newspage of NMA...

I never said he did. More importantly, how? Saying 'it's obvious' isn't enough.

Wow I must've missed that one. Earlier in development I read the complete opposite. That is pleasing, but the latest videos do not lie. It's a generic first person shooter now.

The game videos have put me right off. I loved System Shock 2 and was excited when BioShock was announced. But watching the videos has totaly destroyed any interest I had.

I don't know why, I can't put my finger on anything specific, though those plasmids must be one of the more disgusting things I've seen in a game for a long time.
