Black Screen and Rainbow Screen on both Fallout 1 & 2

I read about these problems in the forums, but, to be honest, I couldn't understand what anyone said. :(
I'm still at school, and I bought the GSP trilogy pack a couple of years ago. They worked fine on my old XP laptop but when I got my XPS M1330 Vista laptop a year ago (I've since upgraded to Windows 7) the discolouration and constant black screens made the game almost unplayable...
I'm sorry about having to repost, but if anyone can post a solution (preferrably in language a random passer by would understand) I'd be incredibly grateful... :D
 
You need the High Resolution patch in the download forum.

this fixes that. You then go into OPTIONS and youll see the SCRN button. hit that to 16 bit then type out resolutions if you want to change that as well
