Black screen when starting up FOT

When I start FOT I get a black screen. It sounds like the game loads but just goes to that screen. You can't alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del or anything. Any ideas?

it has something to do with your direct x sound acceleration. check the few treads here, I'm sure there is an answer there, I'm somewhat sick and can't search for it now, I'm sure you understand...
