Boxing - do you do it?

Do you consider it cheating to become the boxing champ in the early or mid-game in FO2?

It seems to me to drastically change the game if you do it. Having done it a few times, I am now considering not doing it anymore except for melee/unarmed characters, since it seems to make the gunfights rather one-sided. It is almost as bad as going to That Place and getting That Stuff at the beginning of the game.

Curious how others feel about this.

i'm going for boxing champ the instant i'm hitting New Reno. i almost do it every time i play the game. i dont think it can be considered cheating if you do it early in the game, because if you try it too early in the game you get your ass handed to you... (unlike when you got to "That Place")

I did it short ago with a 21 level character, defeating the Masticator, and I wouldn't have passed the anti-doping test tough.
You say it is bad for ranged attack? Why?

You get improvements to your resistances from winnning each match, that makes all the fights easier.

Actually, you get them from entering a fight, so if you can get out of a fight e.g. disqualification) and then convince Stuart to give you another chance, you'll get an additional resaistance level.

Prizefighters kick ass.

I've also been informed it's theoretically possible to get infinite rematches, not just one as I believed. Details in the next update a few years from now or so. ;)

That would rule.
Just imagine, Unarmoured HtH fighing against the Enclave.

It's not just resistances, it's the damage threshold which is really devastating.

Having your bare skin have a damage threshold of 15 points before you even do the resistance calculation just makes a lot of weapons completely ineffective against you. Combined with armor, you can easily get 21 damage threshold without power armor - most guns just bounce off you, even miniguns.

Yeah, I was lumping them together. They are essentially the same thing, they just work in a different way that makes them more effective.

 Wow...i never did that boxing thing. But with the unarmed character im playing now I wont miss it ;)
