Brotherhood then and Brotherhood now...

Is it me or the Brotherhood name is the only thing that is left of the old Brotherhood name?
Fallout 1 ending - Brotherhood stayed out of the politics and continued the technology research as it did before... In Fallout 2 - they stuck to that... In FOT, Brotherhood sends out a killing squad everytime they get threatened or need something, no brotherhood representation in any town so far and this whole "forced able bodied" recruitment stinks of "Postman"...
Basically, less numbers and technological superiority was replaced but high number of green recruits controling population further but scheduled "cleansing" in its drive for absolute power. It's like replacing a group of "military advisors" with a bunch of trigger happy marines...

My 2 cents...

The Brotherhood in FOT is a splinter group who left because they didn't support the new ideals of the 'mainstream' Brotherhood. Microforte can do anything they want with FOT's Brotherhood because they are not the original Brotherhood but a separate group.

Yes indeed... But still - there should be some fork in the story the one can take... That's what Fallout universe is all about - like break down in the street and cry "I'm tired of killing little children who toss Molotov Cocktails at me because they lack love and attention! Sniff..."

Things to do on the weekend - finally use my booze collection on my fellow vault dwellers and rob them blind... :) Did somebody say Ave... Mi... G... ?

I love the game, it just aint Fallouty enough... Still rocks...

But then explain then how the origins as depicted in the intro are botched. THEN they splintered, after forming.

Or is this BoS splintered from another group that just coincidentally was named the BoS?

And what the fuck is with the guitar music in the intro?

Yesterday, when I first started Tactics, I had a good laugh... I really hate the entire intro, I think that the story is very bad. What is this shit with BOS being so militant and aggressive?

They should have studdied the story and cultures (BOS behavior) in Fallout 1 and then do a game.

If Brian Fargo is released this game for Fallout gamers, then he made the stupidest mistake in his life.

Fallout: Tactics reminds on Fallout, but it lacks 95% of it's humor, atmosphere.

Bluntly translated as:

It lacks the heart and soul of Fallout. The retro music, the feel, etc. For a minute there from watching the intro, I thought I was going to be playing a racing game. Better not say that, we'll end up with Fallout Racer in a couple of years.

BTW, Miro.

Have you seen the press release of Torn? The game that takes Fallout's SPECIAL system (and what Feargus calls the 'best' part of Fallout), gives it a fantasy flavor, and then makes it into a real-time Diablowthon. "everything the fans have been asking for since the original Fallout was released".

Let's face it, bro. Fallout is sunk and dead.

My 2 cents - FOT is not of FO universe...

You can exmplain FOT's Brotherhood being the splinter of the FO's brotherhood that is completely different and has nothing to do with the original.
What you cannot explain is the difference in the entire universe - why California is retro future style that has nothing simular to the world we live in and Chicago looks like 1990's WWII propaganda museum in a Mad Max setting?
Why do mutants and Ghouls are so damn different even though in the story they are the same super mutants that were driven from the West?
Why were all the weapons converted to existing firearms but they still use Stimpacks and Psychos?

The problem is not that BOS of FOT is not exactly the same as BOS of FO - the whole universe is not the same. FOT has only one thing to do with FO and that's in the name...

Stuka!

If you notice in the intro, this brotherhood (FO:T) are the 'rejects' of the original BOS. They were basically booted out and sent to chase after the mutants. When they crashed, this brotherhood became standed and lost. Instead of kicking back, engineering new techs, etc., they have to defend themselves in Chicago where not many people know them. The original BOS had made a name for themselves in California and established a certain degree of privacy. Being severed from the original BOS and believing that the brotherhood should recruit from the wastelands, they did whatever they wanted to.

I think that FO:T is a great game storywise and everything, IF you judge it on its own. It's true that the whole retro feel and humour was removed, but this is a TACTICAL STRATEGY game. FO:T is based on combat, so I can't blame them for going all out on the militaristic theme. These guys AREN'T the same bos.

* why the hell did they put a tommy gun in the game though?!?!

The simple solution is for BIS or whoever the hell made F1 and F2 to quit screwing around with dumbass games like icewind dale and give us F3. God i get angry just thinking about it. F1 and 2 are considered to be 2 of the best games EVER (PCGAMER backs me on this one). so why dont those genuses just make f3? even if it is excactly like f2 but with a completely different story, i'd buy it in a second. All i want is more fallout.

It's interesting how they glossed/botched over the original BOS as well. They made them sound like a batch of military vault-dwellers rather than a group of ex-US military deserters. Someone else has compiled the history of the BOS as depicted in the first and second games elsewhere in the forums. I think it's in the General Fallout Discussion one.

Chris Taylor acknowledged that "military vault dwellers" was a poor choice of words. Basically, by 'vault', they mean sealed bunker rather than the Vault-Tec made, civilian, numbered vaults.

Still, I have to agree about the changes of the BOS we see in the game. I mean, "forced labor camps"? That's WAY off there.

While I don't agree with Miro's "peaceful BOS" opinion, they most certainly weren't freaking slavers. Mission 4 has you slaughtering starving civilians so you can get a hummer through the town.. Then at the end, the BOS is going to dispatch execution squads to kill off most of those people and round the rest up for a forced labor camp...

WTF?

If their opinion was so different from the ones who exiled them, why the hell did they keep the same name?

But you forget something:

They call it a splinter faction.

That way, they have carte blanche to cover up their own ignorance...I mean, do whatever the fuck they want with it.

Kind of like putting on shades and saying that the sky is demonstrably a shade of shit brown.

RE: But you forget something:

The worse part - I love Fallout... Now it's like playing Fallout 2 and being forced to be a slaver - I can't stand that shit (unless it's kinky leather and lace kind :) ).

I want choices! My outcome of the battle (kill civies or not) should have different result - it's "better" to kill civilians since they gain you more exp points...

Sucks!
