Moo..... Moo.... I'm an Interplay Cow. (Ready to be milked with a Fallout style MMORPG with aliens!)

Well, Gee, let's see.....

Sony,

PS2,

Final Fantasy X,

and Fallout Fantasy.

If I was a stupid assed guy in the marketing department, this would probably be the picture I am drawing right now, wouldn't I?

Remember how Fea. was bitching about his New marketing department?

"Uh, they were trying to attach a brand to it, any brand would do, and they even thought of the King Arthur and the round table as a focal point, in the end, we were forced to let them push the Black Isle brand instead."

Enough said.

Starseeker is *shaking his head in complete disbelieve*, signing off.

"The final price of freedom, is the willingness to face the most frightening being of all, one's own self."

Actually, they were wondering how the ever-loving HELL they could market TORN at ALL. Not even I could come up with anything.

"Uh...well, it's fantasy...BIS made it...it's...well..."

See the vexation on MARKETING's part? Most of the time I loathe them, but this time I'm sympathising with them, in that I couldn't even figure out something marketable on Torn. It truly was a generic game that would have gotten lost amidst the rest of the releases coming out.

Now, with this recent bit, read my news post on LameSpy 'firing' Killian from DAC.

I think it's time DAC finds a new host. One a bit less...selective in their manners.

Dammit...still debating whether I should either work on an arena-style MUD or a wastelandish version of Exitilus through standard telnet interface (no client required).

I can understand cancelling Torn because of marketing issues, but why do they keep trying the ruin the best thing they've done in a decade? I just don't see how even a marketing department can rationalize that.

Whatever you do, don't put in any deathtraps. DTs are shit - the epitome of poor design.

Huh?

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Apr-13-02 AT 06:50PM (GMT)[p]Wha!?! They're developing a Final Fantasy version of Fallout? What the Fuck? Tell me this is a joke, or that my short attention span made me imagine this.

RE: Huh?

Well... it's not *exactly* a FF version of Fallout, but it is a console-only Fallout, using the Dark Alliance engine, that happens to be named Fallout Fantasy. Wait... nevermind, it is pretty much a FF version of Fallout.

Doyle, you'd think I already know this? :)

Same with "void spaces" like one area of Circle or MERC, in you go up above the one warrior trainer and get hopelessly mired into a void.

THOSE are shit design. However, death traps at certain locales and with a good forewarning...aren't too bad, really. Can even implement a bit of danger if you have a climbing skill and someone is far too green to climb...

"You see the broken body of %C at the base of the cliff..."

Worked on a few in the past, most aren't around much anymore, currently I'm writing something totally from scratch. Time-consuming work, mostly.

RE: Huh?

blek, which console are they using? maybe they'll make a fallout style final fantasy =]=]

RE: Huh?

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Apr-14-02 AT 00:36AM (GMT)[p]Next thing you know they will be makeing a Fallout style Command and Conquer. You can already make your own Fallout campaigns on Star Craft. They even have giant scorpians for critters.

Oh man... Have you ever played the Discworld MUD? There are quite a few death traps in that.. falling off mountains and breaking rope bridges... that there is no warning of. The creators are just LAZY BASGSAETGURDS who think that the best way to slow inflation is to make sure that none of the newer players (who dont know where the death traps are) have any money. ARGH!
They also keep adding new areas to the MUD that are totally lethal to anyone who hasnt been playing for over a year... and making all the NPC/monsters that newbies could kill tougher, so now when a player starts, they have to kill rats and cockroaches for about four weeks untill they are tough enough to murder an NPC tramp/beggar or whatever... Oh, also, there is no way of getting experience other than killing... (quests dont give any experience, or any practical benefit) so any professions (assassins, thives, non-comabt-priests) that cant kill, kill, kill from the start are strongly hadicaped.

If you want to see "HOW TO MAKE A MUD BAD", see discworld.imaginary.com port 42 to play.
