Bushcraft in the wasteland

So I have done a couple of threads on survival and bushcraft related things in our world, so now I have decided to do one about Bushcraft in the wasteland. I am basing this one around the Capital Wasteland, since the Mojave is more desert survival.

Tools
A bushcraft knife will be needed. I think for the wasteland the best knife grind would be convex, because they are more resilient than other grinds, and better for splitting. In the wasteland it would also be wise to keep a hollow grind blade with you for skinning tasks. I can kind of see the use for a Scandinavian grind, because they are easier to sharpen than the others and split well, but can be brittle.
An Axe will be needed, probably a Hudson Bay one, best for splitting smaller limbs of deadwood to be used on fires. A folding bow saw will come in handy.
The K-Bar style combat knife also looks good, especially the one with the knuckle guard with the spikes on it. It would be wise to carry a parang or an other kind of machete to deal with mutated vegetation.
Traps and trapping skills will definitely be useful in the wasteland. It would be advisable to carry some foothold traps, for animals like mole rats, rad scorpions, wild dogs etcetera. I also think you could trap a mole rat sized animal with a cable snare.
Fire starting tools would be needed. A ferrocium rod would work well, and Butane would be useful. There is an abundance of dry material that could be used as tinder in the wasteland, like dead grasses and dead twiggy wood.
A US Military backpack will be good, tough and will perform well. Since this is a nuclear wasteland, any old hiking bag won't do at all.
A high quality stainless steel canteen will be needed (almost all water in the wasteland will need to be boiled to be purified) with a stove stand. Water will need to be heated until it comes to a rolling boil.
If you can carry the weight a Dutch oven will be good for cooking, and a skillet.
A Trangia style stove will be useful.
around 30 metres of paracord will be indispensable.

Firearms: I would say a rifle like an FN SCAR H, it fires 7.62 x 51 MM NATO, would be good. The more powerful round will be more useful against all the nasty wasteland creatures, and will penetrate the skin tissues and reach their internal organs, or if its something like a mutated hog, it will penetrate the gristle plate better. You can also attach an M203 Grenade launcher to the bottom.
An Bushmaster ACR would be suitable, using 6.88 MM Remington SPC.
An AK 47 would be well suited to the wasteland, with its legendary reliability being taken into account.
Kalishnikov went to every effort to make his rifle endure anything Russian weather or a Russian soldier could throw at it and function. In think it should be able to handle any random encounters in the wasteland. It fires 7.62×39MM, and you can attach a bayonet.
The Heckler and Koch G3 would be good too, 7.62x51MM NATO
A good old bolt action rifle would be a good investment, for example a Mosin Nagant, which fires
7.62×54mmR.
With snipers an I think an M21 would be a good choice, The M21 was selected in Vietnam because of its accuracy and reliability.
A Barret M82 would be perfect for the wasteland, 50BMG. The M82 was designed as an anti tank/anti material gun, so it will be able to penetrate a toughened super mutant skull, if using API rounds.
You could be able to take out a super mutant overlord, or even a behemoth in one shot, and it will turn normal raiders/centaurs/ other mutant creatures into pink mist.
With pistols, a Glock 17 would be a good weapon to open carry around. It is tough and reliable, and fires 9x19mm Parabellum, amongst other cartridges.
The combat shotgun will be useful for close range encounters, and dealing with feral ghouls.
A gun I think would be brilliant for the wasteland is an AA-12 Fully automatic shotgun, using 12 Gauge cartridges.
The AA-12 can use different types of 3" 12-gauge ammunition such as buckshot and slugs. It can also use high-explosive rounds. It has very low recoil. It is fully automatic, but only fires 300 rounds per minute, so you can fire 1 round at a time. It is fed from either a 8 shell box magasine, or a 20 or 32 shell drum magazine.
The Remington 870 deserves a mention, firing 12 gauge, 16 gauge, 20 gauge, 28 gauge or 410bore cartridges.
I also want to mention some General Purpose Machine Guns, they will be useful in dealing with massed ghoul assaults.
An M60 would be useful, its cartridge is 7.62x51mm. There are several types of ammunition that can be used, like ball, tracer and armour piercing rounds.

Food and water
Almost all wasteland water would have to be purified, once the water comes to a rolling boil, that is enough to kill any waterborne threats.
Of course, Nuka Cola and Qauntum goes without saying.
brahmin meat, mirelurk meat, dog meat, molerat meat, ant meat, "special meat" can be dried and consumed later on the trail. old packaged food and cave fungus is edible too.
When cooking, you can bake meat on hot rocks by digging a hole, heating rocks, placing the meat in the rocks and covering the top up.

shelter
It would be wise to bring along a tarp that can be tied between trees as cover, they are very versatile when being set up.
More likely however you should just take shelter in an old car/truck/bus, or one of the old buildings/houses.
I cannot see a point to making a lean to, or an a - frame. There are no leaves to make a roof, and I guess you could use scrap, but it would be a waste of time with all the old buildings around.
