C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.

Xamira

First time out of the vault
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application.

Can anyone help me?

By the way since the mod moved this when I first posted it, im going to point out that this is the error coming up when I try to start fallout2.

That's odd, I didn't think I moved the thread. I moved another one and deleted a few shadow topics, it's possible that confused the board.

Can't help you with the problem, I'm afraid, except to say you'll probably have to post more information than that.

Okey Dokey.

Im Working on Win XP
Geforce FX 5700 256mb Gfx card
Pentium 4
Direct X9
1 gb Ram
3.4GHZ

It shouldnt be a hardware problem because ive played it on this computer before...Ill try reinstalling it aswell, it may be a scratched disk.

After installation of Service Pack 2, Windows XP may display an error message relating to "AUTOEXEC.NT" when trying to run certain 16-bit applications.

Installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2 on an otherwise "healthy" Windows XP system may delete the AUTOEXEC.NT file. As a result, when trying to run certain applications which make use of 16-bit technology an error message like the following may be displayed:

"16 bit Windows Subsystem - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

This is from here

Recommended solution from that page is to copy a valid autoexec.nt file into \windows\system32. It says you can find a valid one in \windows\repair.

This is not a fallout issue. Its a windows xp issue.

but its affecting fallout and my gameplay of it. And anyway it may be of some use to other people with XP.

Seems to me you might have. He didn't mention anything about fallout at first:

Well, I know what was in the post since I replied to it. But I have no memory of moving it; on the contrary I have a memory of deciding not to move it for the time being.
