.....How about New York City, probably the city that was hit the hardests by the bomb, because it would most definately be the most important target of a nuclear strike, the diversity and the depth of the city would let alone, be enough for the entire game to support for Fallout 3. How would the vault dweller's ancestors link here? interplay could come up with a brilliant idea to link the post-war west with the post-war manhatten. dont you agree? think about it - all of the hisotorical sites of the city, it would be interesting to find out what happened there after the war.

I'm not so sure it would be, 'the most important taget of a nuclear strike.' I would think military instilations would be a higher priority.

I wouldn't mind seeing the setting move away from California.

I thinks thats a cool idea but how about moving away from the US completely and maybe have a global feel to it, think of the different factoins you could choose to start from...

My very first reply,

U could start in Europe, (u know germany, holland, france, england (does it ring a bell:) )
U would need a new skill: MULTI-LANGUAGE, the better u are at it, the better u can talk to the npcs that speak a different language.

Example u start as an englishman in GB u can understand most of the mutants/humans there, u take a boat to france u dont understand a word they are saying. (perhaps u learned french in school so U know what they say but ur character doesnt)
If Multi-language is high enough the french text transforms to english and u can respond.

that multilanguage skill would be a waste of time. Not only would the programmers have to speak and understand all those languages, but the character would have to spend all his skill points on this learn languages skill and not be a good fighter or thief when he gets into trouble in the willderness. He would have very little, if any points to spend on other necessesary skills regarding his character.

An other idea would to stay in California, but added Fallout, Fallout 2 maps, and added new lands. And why not added FT:BoS map ?
But Europe map is a good idea, i believe...

Not exactly

destroying new york is not a military target but a moral.i dont think i need to explain this any further.

Maybe an important target for terrorists, but not for nuclear strikes. It is pointless to take out cities with no military threat, rather the nukes would be launched at air bases, other nuclear installations, and cities that have military installations near them.

RE: Multi-language skill waste of time??

"that multilanguage skill would be a waste of time"

Maybe, but u could also make it in a way that if u level up, Multi-language goes up the number of points u have for intelligence. So that way u wont lose 'valueble' points for other skills.
Although speaking another language is very useful if u want to buy a gun or want a quest.

And programmers dont have to know all the languages they can just fill in whatever they like as long as no one can read it or understand it. like: "goedemorgen avonturier persoon kan ik u misschien een geweertje aanbieden?"

or just a lot of ***** **** ********* *** in any case ur choises of replying are these:
1.'uuuuhh..'
2.'i'll be leaving now'
3.*run away*
4.*snap the guy's neck*
so it wouldnt matter what kind of text is displayed EVEN if its in english u cant give a decent reply.

sorry for any spelling mistakes, im only dutch...

The general idea in fallout as far as I get it is that there were no prefered targets everyone threw all there nukes at whatever was closest and there was not an inch that was unefected by the war.

Leaving the U.S is a nice idea but has one major flaw- power armour, in the sierra base it is clearly noted that PA was an exclucive invention of the U.S army.

Multilanguge is not very practical because aside from the fact that it would be a pain developin it, in the years since the war the small remnants of Uropians that remained must have developed a common languge.

LOL LOL
Europe a common language!! hahahhahaha
The Germans would never ever make a comprimise to their 'holy' language
The English would never ever make a comprimise to THEIR 'holy' language
The Frensh wouldn never ever make a comprimise to THEIR 'holy' language

Multi language would work out pretty nice, SO what if they need a few months more to develop it u could get a very nice and interesting storyline.

And the Uropians probably have developed a substitute for the power armor.

sorry got to go my day at the office is finally over (its 17.00 here)

bye

.........

I know that.but if someone nukes nyc then the yankees will have a veeeery low moral which can easyly lead to military victory on the other side

Yeah, but it still would have been hit by a nuke, and it doesn't take more than one nuke to level a city.

Wait a minute

Are you saying that the minute NYC is nuked we'll be so depressed that we'll recall the nukes that were previously fired, most likely as soon as the initial launch was detected, and not fire any more? That just doesn't make sense.

actually i think it`s a good idea, if you use the "@#3%& style dialogs in the beggining and link everything to intelligence ,probably come up with some new perks; new territories is in my must-have list, we have discussed this a while back, go to the archives and check out...

Sure ! We've already problems withn €uro; so it would be a big fight for a common languege ! In addition, i don't think it could happen (common langage) because after a nuclear world war, it would stay only little communities wich don't exchange a lot with other ones : so they won't melt there language (i hope u understand what i mean... difficulty of learning english ! Hahahaha !!!! 8o)

You have got a point. New York has some unique sceneries, like the statue of liberty (Planet of The Apes), and a lot of dark future movies ( Call me Snake) has taken place there.

Nope

No you misunderstood me. The thing i wanted to say is that if nyc (and other big us cities) would be nuked then the general moral (in the army and of the "common people") would drop fast and that COULD (i dont say will) lead to riots and/or rebellion (even of the army forces). if still dont understand what i say then think about the following: (i dont know where u live but lets say england) you dont live in london (so that you survive) but london has an air strike and most parts are destroyed.what would you and other people say?that your gov and military suxx because they couldnt defent the city and the country. in case of a nuclear war probably more then 1 city would be destroyes so this feeling would be much stronger even if your country could do the same (or partly the same) to an other country (=enemy)

What a crock

First of all, I live in the USA. Secondly, there is no real way to defend against a nuclear attack, aside from the promise of immediate and brutal retaliation. I fail to see how NYC getting nuked would cause us to doubt our government/military to that point that we revolted, without other *MAJOR* factors involved. You don't seem to be able to explain that.
