Call of Duty 4 online beta

I got a code for the CoD4 online beta on xbox live, but it doesn't work. I can access the file, but it says "xbox live not available. Try again later" or something like that. Otherwise Xbox live works just fine. Anyone else have this problem? I haven't activated my gold membership yet, is that required?
 
Can't comment on your specific issue with CoD4, but I do know that Xbox Live Gold is required for playing any game online. So, it stands to reason that not having Gold activated could be the problem.
 
It's supposed to go on until the release of the game. Besides, I already have a code reserved to me. It should work. Apparently, they stopped releasing codes on the 30th of september, but I think I tried before that.
