Hi there, fellas.

As you may guess, I'm quite the Fallout fan. I also enjoy a decent story, and occasionally writing a decent story. I've read a few good ones posted here and I must say that I'm rather impressed. What I'm NOT impressed with is the gross negligence perpetrated on the original Fallout premise and storyline by the few writers who bothered to touch the material in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, fringe-element stories are not a bad idea in and of themselves, they flesh out the Fallout universe, but I feel strongly that the original Fallout storylines need to be dramatized, to give more life to the wasteland by three-dimensionalizing it's characters and provide themes to the stories behind the lives. What I've managed to find so far is either horribly dry or just the author reciting nearly step by step the events of the video game.

Now, I may be wrong, there might be a kick-ass story regarding the Vault Dweller's travels hiding somewhere on the net, but I haven't found it, and me no like. The premise has heaps of potential, and if no-one else is going to satisfy me, I might as well vent all these ideas I have floating about in my head by writing my own story.

I've already pat down most of the basic outline. What I've come up with is a three-part series.

EPISODE ONE (Act 1): "Fallout"
- The Vault Dweller must abandon the safety of Vault 13, as well as his own ideals, in order to survive the search for a replacement water chip among the anarchic ruins of civilization

EPISODE TWO (Act 2): "Master Race"
- Vault 13 sends out teams of "recon troops" to scout out habitable areas for it's escalating population; the story follows one such team's discovery of a potential site, but also an indigenous mutant population with which they choose to deal with quite harshly, and possibly unwisely

EPISODE THREE (Act 3): "????"
- Haven't quite gotten around to working out the details for this one, but it will basically be about Vault 13 fighting for survival against a severe backlash from certain sections of the wasteland's populace on one side, and hostile advances by a clearly superior opponent on the other

I've promised Miroslav I'd send him these stories for him to publish in the site's fanfic section, but each of these episodes will contain quite a few chapters according to my estimates, and will take considerable time to complete on my own, more than I care for. What I am here to do is request the assistance of a competent co-writer to share with me the burden of writing this. Two heads are better than one in any case. My e-mail address is listed, so to any interested parties, feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your time. Take it easy.

You may be interested to know that there are currently two Fics about the Vault Dweller being written. The first is one by lockout called the "Toys in the Hall" it is good. Very good. I'm assuming you haven't read it because it is only on one messageboard right now (the Annunaki's) and in a beta stage. Here is the link:

http://pub37.ezboard.com/fthewritersblock82746frm3.showMessage?topicID=4.topic

The second is being written by myself and is appropriately called "Vault Dweller". Again, this isn't some half rate fic I'm writing. The beta reads I've had by other talented writers has given it very little except praise. I am working on this Fic as a "Post Vault 13 novel" about the Vault Dweller, from the time just after he is tossed from Vault 13 to where he establishes Arroyo. I will make this fic good, trust me. If you ask around you will find I have the talent and the whotspa if you will...

To Illiterati:

I wish you good luck on your project. As for me, I'm still here, just chuggin' along. Doing the best I can...you know how it is.

being as the 'fringe element' writer around here...

I can't know how I'd be of much help. Let me just welcome you, sir.. to this board, to this community.

I won't even say anything about the Illuminati. No.. nothing.. you're an old-school chap, I can see right off. :D Your decision, your life, your mode of thinking... you'll do just fine without us, wouldn't you? You've got your own ideas, and you know what to do with them.
When you do set down to it and write your fic though, I'd appreciate it if you'd let us beta it...

Minerva bless you, (il)literati! May your caffeine be pure and sweet, and your ideas remains sharp and forthcoming!

::janks the last hypodermic needle out of B-Pen's arm and st

I dunno how much help I can be either... I'm a bit of a sporadic writer... I started (so far) about twenty or so Fan-Fics and finished... what? One of significance? Hell, the way this is looking even Legends might wind up in the trashcan, since I can't find a satisfying ending for it...

(well, I can, I just don't want to stretch out the battle too long, yet don't want it to be too short either... Ugh, should've never gone with primitive weapons)

Then again, that has telepaths in it, and you wouldn't be interested in that... soooooo... I promiss I'll try to write a real Fallout Fan-Fic... some day... and I'll the wacko warning everyone for the end of the world in 2077 D.V.

Furthermore, anyone got any duc-tape? I doubt just twohundred rolls will keep B-Pen in his seat.

"You may be interested to know that there are currently two Fics about the Vault Dweller being written."

Indeed I *am* interested. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. Going by the title, I don't know what to expect as yet, but perhaps that's a good thing.

lockout -- I appreciate the well-wishes :).

bp -- First off, thanks for the welcome. Second,

"I can't know how I'd be of much help."

By speeding up the brainstorming process and writing half the chapters. But I since I've already come up with most of the story, a tag-team approach would be for the sake of completing the thing within a shorter time frame more than anything else. I suppose your critique will be a useful-enough substitute to brainstorming when I post the beta, which I *will* do.

William --

"Then again, that has telepaths in it, and you wouldn't be interested in that..."

Actually, I would. Just the other day I was pondering how ESPs could fit in a Fallout story. Haven't yet come up with an excuse to introduce such a radical new element into the Fallout universe that satisfies me as being worthwhile, but still, I'm definately interested.

I'm not sure of what can be counted as ESP but I remember reading a fic with something like that...

I think it's "There is Danger in the Wastes" which I found in DAC a long time ago

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Aug-27-01 AT 09:10AM (GMT)[p]Ah, yes... Kharn's work. A great with interesting plot points..

But..

"Greater ghouls?"
"Lesser ghouls?"
"Cyborgs?"

A very good fic.. *sigh*.. just not very Fallout-y. Reminds me more of Shadowrun than anything else.. it IS based on Europe, though. So I guess it not only gets points for creativity, also in style. Our new guy might not like it for that, though..

It's an altaverse.

Hmmm...

The P&P RPG has an interesting take on it, true, but I believe (although I didn't write it, that's the beauty of it) I broke one of their rules, sort of... By having a telepath try to kill someone in his dreams and wind up at the wrong side of the sword, semi-literally.

Cause yes, for the sake of putting down a credible siege in Legends I had to have NCR turn Modoc into a fortress and since I didn't particularly feel like using the Enclave I had little left but tribals, which can be easily, and I realize that, taken out by rifles and such... Untill of course, they get on the walls.

Come to think of it, I technically haven't written anything about swords or guns searing through the air, but explaining how a telepath can get killed in a dream and her blood be found on a sword hundreds of yards away, I think I'll leave to the readers... =)

Yaknow, I might just finish it...

http://www.theilluminati.f2s.com/contests/legends.htm

A very old entry to a contest, and what is here that I already have on my computer (still 33 or so pages, including epilogue, but lacking an ending) may very well come out very different in the end... And if it won't work, Legends'll be the first fic to wind up in The Illuminati's Trashcan.
