Can Charisma Only Be Raised By One Point in FO2???

First time out of the vault
Obligatory Legalese: First off, let me say that search engines suck. I type in "charisma" and I get a million hits having nothing to do with charisma. So if this has been covered before (and of course it has been, this game's been out forever now), well, sorry but stop crying and don't respond if you don't want to.

Anyway, is there a way to raise charisma more than just that one point which comes from the BOS mod? I would like to get five other party members in addition to myself. I miss those RPGs which had a whole posse of adventurers running around! The member-limit based on charisma makes sense, but in practical terms I find it "stiffling"...I suppose there might be a cheat editor out there, but I was wondering whether there's any way to legitimately do it within the game, to increase one's party roster.

Thanks. Great to see regular discussion here on this great game! Why do they always have to ruin things, the suits...Van Buren at ~95% complete??? What a shame!!! Why didn't the suits just sell it to somebody, instead of letting all that work go to waste. I mean, they have the code, art, etc. (~95%) but are just sitting on it while they're bankrupt. Geez, why not sell it on a limited license basis (or whatever other terms agreeable to a buyer) and let someone finish the damn thing right!!! And no of course I don't mean what BS is doing now with FO3, I mean doing Van Buren -- since it's practically all there already -- instead of starting anew (why not start anew with a FO4)....

There's also the Gain Charisma perk, and finding a certain item of coolness.

Guess what, I typed in "raise charisma" or "gain charisma" into the Search engine, limit the query to Gameplay&Tech Forum, and get 12 and 20 relevant results, respectively.

But since none of that addresses the question specifically, I let this slip.

+1: One point comes from the Brotherhood implant
+1: Another point comes from the Gain Charisma Perk.
+1: one more is in effect as long as you have the Sunglasses from Mason in New Reno in your active slot.

+3 Total.

Hey, thanks for the tips, guys! Okay, so I'll try to be more creative WRT search engine terms...I swear, I have like "2 LK" with search engines! Buy.com has the worst -- often I type in the title exactly and still can't get the book!

Anyway, thanks...but why wouldn't someone utilize what's already been worked up to be Van Buren instead of letting it go to waste? I know the company was in financial straits at the time, barely making payroll from week to week, but heck, with all that code and stuff (~95%) around for the hot property that the Fallout franchise is, it's almost criminal they just let it lie around! It just needs finishing touches (music, etc.), according to the interview with some BIS dude at gamebanshee.com...I almost wish they'd released it full of bugs, just so that it's out there! I know the fans would have modded the thing to run correctly....

Yeah, go tell the retard-frenchman that runs Interplay that.

BTW, FYI: the sunglasses from Mason in New Reno must be equipped to raise one's charisma. It doesn't do anything simply by being in the inventory.

I know that sounds like "duh!" given what we know about Fallout2 gameplay mechanics, but I thought I'd just point that out for the record since the item description in the game ("it makes you feel cool") makes it sound like you get a benefit simply from having it in your inventory (like the motion sensor).

Yes, Per, you're right...Silencer did say "active slot!" It's just that when playing the game, my willing suspension of disbelief takes over and I forget a lot of the real world.... =)

BTW, I assume the makeup kit does the same thing, but for female characters? And, as far as my wanting more party members (which is why I'd inquired of the Charisma trait in the first place), the magnetic personality perk lets me add one more slot to my roster, I just realized! But the sunglasses are "cheaper" (than wasting a whole perk on magnetic personality) since, with an initial CH of 4, raised to 5 by the BOS mod, I will only have 6 with the sunglasses, and the system calculates slots by "slots=CH/2" and rounds down so raising my CH to 7 with the magnetic personality perk would still mean 3 NPCs....

Ah well anyway thanks folks, I appreciate it.

Nope, no gender stereotyping here. The makeup does nothing.

Hey, I just had this thought:

Maybe the Magnetic Personality Perk adds an additional slot to your party roster, no matter your CH rating? Thus, even though a CH of 6 or 7 only means three NPCs, with that Perk four are allowed!

Okay, okay, so I'm a genius.... ^_^
