Can I free Vic without paying?

LightandDark

First time out of the vault
Since I have an Advanced Power Armor, (I did not cheat, I just did a BOS quest early, and tagged my outdoorsman skill. which led me to getting an Advanced Power Armor.) Can't I just kill Metzger, thus freeing Vic, thus letting him join my party?

I have no idea how to get 1,000 that quickly.

EDIT: God that was so f**kin easy.

Just in case you have no idea what I did to get Advanced Power Armor, read the following. , I can't take credit since I was stuck on a part in Klamath, so I read a guide made by Omkar Namjoshi on gamefaqs. It had a part on where you could get Advanced Power Armor early(and get 20,000 experience points from a quest and optionally get weapons as well.)

But lets be honest - going all the way down to Navarro is just about as close to cheating as you're going to get! Its not really role playing now is it.

Since this is obviously your first game I cannot stress enough that you should DUMP that power armour and not use a walk through! You're only cheating yourself out of a really good story!!!

Anyway - I digress, the answer is you either pay him 1000 (500 if you're a woman with CH6) or just kill him! Its really too bad there is no option to threaten him with a really high charisma and speech as per FO1 with Garl ("It would be good for your eternal soul" or something).

You could get that grand quicker by getting stuff and selling it back to the traders - try killing some unruly tribals (wilders, cannibals, war party, etc) and selling the spears or by killing Geckos and selling their pelts - its not impossible!

First of all, that was in a emergency, I had no idea how to get to Smiley without being turned into radioactive sludge, until I consulted the guide, which then I finally gotten a pair of rubber boots to cover my feet.

Second, that Advanced Power Armor I somehow have I've decided to label it as my S.M.A.K, Save My Ass Kit, in other words, in the chance that I'm severely f**ked and running is near to impossible, I'll don it and save my ass*!

*NPCs who have joined me may not survive whatever made me put on the suit in the first place.

... It's not an obligation to do that quest at the beginning of the game. There're a lot of easier quests which can bring you XP. I'm agree with what Hotel California said.

Ehmz, it's kind of pointless to tell someone how to play the game. It's a singleplayer game, let him play it the way he wants.

Is the OP supposed to be some kind of joke? "I can't find $1000, all I have is thousands of these little round yellow metal things, but no dollars!"

I think he was referring to game mechanics, Per, not the feasibility.

Also, it just proves he didn't read the guide all the way through to spoil his game, so lay of him, guys...
