Cannot start the fallout editor

Hello!
I downloaded the fallout editor but each time it starts, i recive a blackscreen for a few seconds and then it returns to windows.
I have enough memory and i checked the whole config, but it doesn't work.
I thought it may be because i wor with winXP but as I switched in the compatibility-mode (is it written so?) for other windows-versions, it doesn't work, too.
Then i tried out my old win95 on my old pc, with enough ram, too, but it doesn't worked there.
May you help me?

PS: ehm, sorry about the typos, but i'm a german and i have some trouble learning other languages :oops:
 
This is probably a stupid question, but do you have Fallout 2 installed? If I recall, the editor won't run without it.
 
It also is really particular to where the game is installed, check the install threads to make sure it's in the right directory.

Fallout 2 is installed on d:/program files/blackisle/fallout2
The editor is installed there, too in the subdir /mapper or something like this.
 
Perhaps it may help me if you give me some info about your installation of fallout2, your mapper and your operating system.
 
I'm at work so I can't test it out, but perhaps the fact that you have them installed on the D: drive instead of C: is confusing it. Does the mapper have a .ini file? If so, open it up and see if there's anything relating to file paths in it.
 
I tried it out at my old pc with win95.
There I installed ALL in the default destination.
It was installed at the right place, too :)
Then I checked the config ocne again but the paths link to the right destination.
Perhaps the editor don't like me? (just a bad joke)
Did you change anything in the config (excuding the paths)?

Today, something about two years later, I got the solution.
I only own the german version of Fallout (1+2), ans so, I had to modify the entry language=german.
Thats all.
 
Odd that this is in the general Fallout forum, but perhaps we missed it the first time around. :D

Anyways, moved to modding.
