cannot use the crowbar on the still

I searched this topic and no one else seems to have this problem,

when I equip the crowbar in my second slot, I click on it, and I go straight to combat. when I try to use it on the still I see not a percentage but just a target.

not sure what I am doing wrong.

From Per's Fallout 2 guide, the FAQ section at the bottom:

Q: I can't use item X on critter/scenery Y, it defaults to some other action.

A: You can't always use an item from the active item slot. If you read the manual (page 35ff) you'll find that you can click and hold on a critter or piece of scenery, then choose the backpack icon, and finally select the item you want to use from inventory.
