Canon ending for the Shi?

What do you all think is the canon ending for the Shi?

I personally don't think it's the "good" ending as I think the Shi forming a new empire with a fleet of Vertibirds in mass production is a pretty big thing and isn't so much as mentioned in New Vegas.

I think it's the ending where they become poverty stricken and disappear out into the Wasteland.

Only problem is I don't see why The Chosen One would decide to randomly kill Dr Wong, it just doesn't make sense roleplaying wise.

What do you think?

Original canon ending from Van Buren - Shi got nuked by remnants of Enclave.
And I support such ending for Bethesda canon... especially considering that Shi don't fit into Fallout.

Off topic question.

Where do you guys find all this stuff about Van Buren?

All I can find is a barebones description of the plot and some random concept art.

The Fallout Bible contains tons of material. The Van Buren devs have been a gamely open bunch about what their plans/vision were in interviews, on messageboards, and even just via personal correspondence since Iplay fell, too. Most of it is collected on the wikis.

MCA said SF got nuked is in the 1st iteration of Van Buren. What's the number of iteration for the final (before cancelled by Interplay) Van Buren?

3rd or possibly 4th... We know of 2 P&P Van Buren campaigns (from MCA & Sawyer). And then the design docs were revised after MCA and Sawyer left so I believe a 3rd iteration is pretty close to the one we currently have. Some unfinished locations and plot holes were fleshed out by our writers so a 4th one will be in the game we're making.

I'm not sure what the canon ending for Shi is because that was scrapped - the Enclave didn't nuke SF from orbit in their retaliation over Chosen One blowing up the Rig.

I always thinked that the Shi were annexed but because of ''different views'' the Shi or it's descends stared revolting against the NCR, who acted in turn stoped the riots trough diplomacy in the begging and with brute force at the end leaving SF in a poor state. This of course stared revolts in the capital and it was one of the main reasons the current president left the political scenario.

This,of course, is all speculation.

Eh, call me crazy but I like the "Shi Empire" idea. Throw some unexpected color in the drab wasteland. Maybe have them collapse for some reason or another, but still- I like the idea because it's less predictable and maybe even justifiable.

The core region could definitely use another autonomous power group to complicate things for NCR's Overnight Empire (and let's be honest, The Brotherhood is more a plot device than a power group at this point), but I don't think the Shi are it. Chinatown was an ill-fit when it first appeared, not least because it was one giant stereotype. Mining an entire faction from that could cause problems for the franchise, both in terms of tone and PR. I suppose they could homogenize it and downplay the things that don't suit the setting's tone and tech balance, but at that point, why not just use someone else?

The descendants of pre-war Chinese submariners and spies being a faction is reasonable. If you remove the... blatantly racist and ridiculous parts, they could still be the Shi while not being essentially an in-game joke.

All the other factions are descended from Americans, but the Shi could offer more insight into the pre-war world and into China. That's great opportunity to explore the Fallout universe.
