Can't access Darkwater's (door's locked)

Ok I've read in this guide that you (in Junktown):

2. Go north to the second part of the city and go in Darkwater's, the shop to
the east. SAVE YOUR GAME, and then talk to Killian.

The problem is, the door is locked! I've tried lockpicking it, but then Killian and his guards turn against me and I have to fight them all (I don't want that).

I've already been at Shady Sands and Vault 15.

I really want to talk to Killian without resorting to violence lol.
