Captain in VC not recognising quest finished

First time out of the vault
I've just done the quest to map out the eight squares around gecko, and when I get back to the captain (whose name escapes me) he doesn't have any kind of dialogue that results in the quest being acknowledged as complete, so I can go on to the next quest. Has anyone else had this problem?
 
Tell us if you have the patch installed and if so, which one.

Also in order to help you we need some system specs.
