It Wandered In From the Wastes
Any other gear heads on here by chance? My other big hobby outside of slogging it out in the wastes is cars.

Feel free to post anything car related here.

My pride and joy after one of Texas' rare winter storms:

There is a cop down the street with a pristine '85 Toyota Supra. He also has a late 90's SC400. Never drives either of them. It's a sin. If the engine is still good, that Supra could be worth a bucketload of money. Old japanese sports cars have gone way up in value over the past few years.
My first car was a '99 Subaru Impreza RS coupe. Had it for 15 years till I accidentally put my landlord's lawnmower gas in it. I thought it was just regular gas. The last two years I drove it with no 1st gear because I stripped it doing doughnuts. Great car series which just seemed to get worse and worse with every new model.

Now I drive a 2017 Honda CR-V. It's a great car but... It's not a Nissan Z.

I'm dailying around in the states with a 2002 manual civic from canada right now. 2nd gear is almost completely botched. It has mood swings, some days I can get second, other days I'm shifting directly to third and praying I can get up to freeway speeds on time coming up the on ramp.

Ouch. If you haven't already, get the transmission fluid changed. If one of the metal shavings gets inside another gear the whole tranny could seize.

Believe me, the tranny fluid is flushed offten. Though surprisingly little shrappnel is extracted, so at least it seemingly isn't falling apart more than it already has.

Are you certain it isn't a clutch disk fading out?

I am by no means a mechanic but my Subaru came with a glass transmission. I went through two clutches and one transmission.

It would slip by itself in second gear when the clutch was fading.

When I blew the tranny (haha) I put it in reverse and it got stuck there.

If it's falling out of gear by itself or not biting I would just not use it at all anymore. It's a honda just rev it all the way in first and go to third.

There doesn't seem to be any clutch slip, I think the syncro for 2nd gear may just be shot.

I'm not done with this tranny yet, she still owes me for all the fluids I've given her, teehee.

Or him, who am I to judge.

How does the car start and when youre about to stop the car maybe listen to the car for half a minute, is it vibrating? I mean you could tell by the engine, if not take it to an expertise with their tests they would give you a report but in my experience you may have been too harsh on the clutch pedal, and the clutch bolts may have been scraping too hard. when waiting for the lights maybe double clutch and start with the second gear rather the first. Maybe the bolts scraped long enough to make this in either case you should have it look otherwise if it's what I think it is you have until winter before the car goes kaput.

I bought the car in this state for $500 a few months ago to teach the GF how to drive stick. I'm not about to try and debug this further so long as the car still gets me from a to b, and at the emd of the day when the tranny finally kicks the bucket it'll be cheaper to just replace the entire tranny from a donor.

I do all my own work on jack stands in the garage because I don't trust mechanics to look at my vehicles.

When I was in Canada my mazda suv which I bought from a Pakistani gave me the guarantee receipts and what not and since I didn't understand anything he told me that "Car is guarantee, bumper to bumper" so gave him 2k it was a 2009 state of the art model, so after like a year there was problem with the clutch bolts so I went in to the certified mazda mechanics shop thingy, they told me it would take 2 days and I said no I need it today and I waited there until the evening and when the chief cam to me and said "the cost if 6k" and I said "the car has guarantee" he still said the same and I said get me your manager and ofc he went by himself and when he came back "400 dollars" and I said why? He said because mandatory tire inspection, I said I didn't ask for it, so I gave like 200 hundred and left. The next day I went to a local mechanic he had like a shitty shed with tires piled up, I tried explaining the problems and ofc I I didn't know English back then he just popped the trunk looked in, the tires and what not, called his apprentice which is like 15 year old, bough tires, changed them, fixed the engine too. And asked for 150 dollars. I tried thanking him but he said "Learn the fucking language" I gave him a generous tip and thought to myself. Even in a country like Canada there's people like these in the most unexpected places both good and bad. I'm grateful to him.

Ouch. I get it if a business owner tries to rip you off, but most of the time it's some kid making 10-15 bucks an hour, has no dog in that fight to keep the shop open, and they STILL try and rip you off.

It isn't just garages. Pretty much all companies do the same thing. If you ever need construction work, get multiple estimates, and make sure they offer estimates for FREE!

This one asshole at a convenience store the other day tried telling me I couldn't get the two pack discount because I was buying four packs of cigarettes. I nutted up and asked him "hey dude, do you have stock in this company? Does it really matter to you if you give me the regular discount?"

I got that discount.

Anyway, cars are cool:
