[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-00 AT 08:58PM (GMT)[p]An idea that I posted quite a long time ago, it’s still good:
I think their should be different careers you can choose from like what did your character train immensely for during the first 16-35 years of his or her life, (ninja, thief, doctor, politician) ...the way to go is to pick your characters career, physical characteristics, and intelligence. I also think you should be able to choose species and race. The career choice would do more than simply decide stats, it would decide where you start the game, what you wear, and what jobs you can take, for instance employer X is not going to hire someone dressed in a Kimono to drive his truck 300 miles south... etc.
* Added: The new Playstation game “Smackdown II” is a paramount example of character creation at it’s finest and I think that the boys down at Black Isle could learn a thing or two from the work of Yukes.

Hello, Joe's Cafe.

Goodbye, Joe's Cafe.

The point of SPECIAL (the FO system) is to COMPLETELY ELIMINATE classes (or careers, or whatever you want).

Smackdown 2? Hoo hoo hoo? What kind of RPG is that?

( i have writtin a longer reply but my computer froze so i will make this shorter)

yes good idea, infact i probobly thaught of it way before you did, i thaught of that for like 7 months. anyway,,
you could have drugdealer, wich could start out with jet or something,,,weed... and has more of a chance of ppl dealing with him, and possibly gets deals on drugs, or just has a good hagle, luck, and other dealing skills.
a wanderer ( travaler) that has maybe good outdoorsman, traps,ETC, and is sort of neutral between rep of bad and good unlike the....
Feadom fighter, wich starts out with good rep, but if kills someone invein, decreases in rep faster than you normally would.
and has more of a % chance that someone would ask him for help, saving a lady from being robbed, or helping a poor bum, this would work good in the randomized, fallout online, more things are randome,
an assasson, that has more of a chance that ppl would ask him to take someone out, cripple someone, or just warn him, or retrieve an item, type quests, and has more on thrown weapons, and big guns (sniper rifle)
and maybe some kind of alchemist, wich im sure you can use ure imagination with,,,, joes caffey im suprized you do not have many replys, ppl can go forever with these carrreer ideas

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Dec-20-00 AT 09:36AM (GMT)[p]As Rune said, the point of FO's character creator is to eliminate careers.

Sure, you could be a drug dealer, if you hoarded a bunch of drugs, had connections, blah, blah. It would be a self-applied title though, only acknowledged by yourself and those who are aware of your business. Same with all the careers. Just like in real life, your job (or lack of one... I'm so broke!) doesn't define attributes of you, though it may shape them. You define your performance at work. Dealing drugs doesn't make you more charismatic. Joining the army doesn't make you more bulletproof. So why should having a certain job affect your stats?

If you want to be something, do it yourself. Preclassification defeats the purpose of something like FOOL.

(In hindsight, none of this matters anyway, since things like the PKing problems and the time syncronicity matter, make the release of FOOL, now or ever, very unlikely)

RE: Ooops...

Sorry, I meant to type FO, but I was so tired (5:00 in the morning when I hadn't slept since 1:00 the previous day) that I typed FOOL. When I debunk something on this board, I'm used to it being FOOL. Why'd you have to change up on me, dammit? :-)

Then, being so bleary and insensible with my own exhaustion, I saw that I had typed FOOL, assumed that that was what the post had been about, and slipped into auto-rant.

Still, take out the parts about FOOL and most of what I said still applies.

Sorry for any discrepancies, but when I said that choosing a career would do more than “simply” decide stats, I said “simply” for a reason. Quite “simply” it would not decide stats at all it would decide skills for instance my character, for the first twenty years of his life, trained twenty-four/seven in different fields of martial arts so logically he would be a better fighter than some asshole in Buttfuck, Idaho who decided he wanted his character to change from a drug dealer to a “Jean-Claude” wannabe. Oh and widen your horizons a little, Smackdown 2 is a wrestling game where in you create a character and take him through a career mode, it is one of the better games of 2000 along with FF9.

RE: Ooops...

oh theyll eventually make something like fool...im sure...once the online rpgs become the next big thing they may just hop on the bandwagon....i think they should only make it if it can work..but its a simple fact..if it looks profitable and even marginally possible it...will always be a possibility

pkers would ruin it...sure youd try to stop em but...n/m different thread for that

RE: Shit! There goes the neighborhood!

Holy Frijoles Batman! By mentioning FOOL, I've turned it into another FOOL post! Off with my head!
