Carnivore anyone?

Yes, I've heard of Carnivore, that friendly little program designed to get the "meat" out of emails streaming across the ether.

Frankly, things like this scare the hell out of me, especially when thrown in with the morass of recently enacted legislation designed to help the so-called War on Terrorism. The US of A had better watch it, lest it becomes more of an "enemy of freedom" than any Iraqi partisan.

All of the public rhetoric about heroics -- remember that Jessica Lynch has just signed a $1 million book deal -- and freedom this, freedom that (freedom fries included) really makes me sick. It takes a round in the face every time that software like Carnivore is worked on, or another law is passed that allows for indefinite detention w/o trial or legal council.

More proof of global conspiracy to destroy democracy. Simply another attempt of the shadow government to spy on people and establish control over the Internet, the last remaining free media.

Carnivore was made YEARS ago... it was the FBI's solution to hacking. It doesn't feed on all computers, the FBI targets someone, and sends carnivore in. They do it to track hackers, and not people who just surf the net. You are safe.

By the way, carnivore was discovered and beaten by hackers, so the FIB uses a new system now. check out info on it from sites like

So you don't think there's any potential for abuse w/this system or others like it?
