Cars?

Darklogic

First time out of the vault
I think it's a stupid idea not to have any cars. Even though Fallout 1 didn't have any (working ones at least), I've come to associate retro-styled American hunks of metal as a major source of enjoyment in the Fallout world. Provided, they don't do anything besides speed up travel, but it's cool to drive around in a supercharged Bel Air lookalike, sort of an homage to Mad Max and The Road Warrior. If this new game gets to clinical or formulaic in it's approach it might lose the sense of connection that the last two games had...just my two cents...

Shows how little I know about software programming by asking this, but, can't Bethesda just use programming from one of the many car simulators out there to allow for driving?

I also agree that using cars as explosive barrels is pretty stupid. And the game will have Fast Travel, won't it? Would't be better to just put a car in the game? I think adding the car in Fallout 2 was a good ideia, not only for game reasons, but because I don't think that anyone is poor and stupid to just simply... walk. There are bycicles, cars or maybe even rides. It's just me or the lack of horses or something else ride-able is pretty strange? Mutant Horses could be quite awesome if done right.

I'm with slaughter.

If there is only one thing i liked from FO Tactics were the vehicles. In a world made of scrap there would always be some handy kid who can put together a working vehicle. Come on! at least put a crappy engine on two wheels, and you'll have a motorbike... i missed a chopper in FO2 ^_^

Fast travel is in, but no random encounters while fast traveling.

Which sucks, if you ask me. No more worrying if I have enough shotgun ammo to see off any radscorpions.

Probably not when a) there's no real need for the player to be able to travel faster (no random encounters) and b) your ability to travel is going to be seriously restricted to open wasteland due to all that rubble, etc. on the streets we see. Heck, I bet even the wasteland is gonna be filled with rocks and crap too.

Although the idea of driving through the remains of Maryland in a rusted, 50's inspired nuclear-powered car with a barely working radio pumping out the Ink Spots while Deadmeat sits in the passenger's seat with his head out the window does sound pretty cool. 8-)

I like the vehicles in FO:Tactics too, until I realized the car was a Hummer and the tank a Sherman, and both would be 200+ years old.

What, the US didn't develop a new MBT after WW2? Please.

Cars wouldn't be too useful in a world with roads that haven't been taken care of. You'd need something used to rough terrain. Driving anything through D.C. would be pretty much impossible with all the debris everywhere.
