Change the guy to a Soviet soldier (with an appropriate uniform) and he's holding an AK.

I'm guessing it might be time for an avatar change.
 
Grab Photoshop and just use the colour adjust feature...a 1 minute job.

But while we are at it, I am stealing this thread. Someone remembers my 7 days game? I adjusted the above shown image for it, so that the team is looking a bit unique. That's my variants of it:

They do not differ a lot, but that wasn't my target anyway. The last two are meaned to be females. I adjusted the face to achieve the look. I'll guess the result would have been better if I had edited the arms a bit too, oh well... :>

Took me some time to get it right, but here's my shot at an AK. Done in Paint. I got a bit lazy with the stock/handle, so it probably looks like crap, but that shouldn't matter that much.

I think it lacks a bit contrast. Especially the details aren't present enough, if you compare it to the original weapon.

I agree with you, 100%. However notice I'm not into drawing at all. If you could give me a bit direction on where to add some color (such as Sun reflection on barrel), I'd be thankful.
 
Is there anyway to add new art to Wasteland? It wouldn't be too difficult to recolour the original animations, and end up doubling or tripling the critters.
 
Well, except one, the other ones aren't meaned to be russian soldiers with ak.
 
Helmet needs a bit more metallic hue, uniform needs to be a bit more Soviet-like brownish military green.

And the Soviet flag, while a solid choice, pun intended, is not easy on the eyes... Put him against a decidedly Russian background:
