Characters switched places

First time out of the vault
Hey, this might have been brought up before, but I can't find it! My main character used to be in the F1 spot, now he's F2 and I have no idea how or why it happened. (might have happened when I dropped something on the keyboard!)

How do I get him back to the F1 position?? I've tried everything - looked everywhere.... I'm stumped.

Thanks.

It wouldn't happen simply by dropping something on the keyboard. You can change the positioning of squad members by moving their tabs/portraits (in the character screen) but the squad leader is unchangeable save under 2 circumstances (that I know of).

1st is the 4 Horseman encounter in unpatched versions. In this case, whenever you enter the encounter, the squad member with the lowest charisma becomes the squad leader. If this is the case, simply give your main character drugs that reduce charisma until he is at the lowest charisma of the group and re-enter the encounter and he will once again become squad leader.

2nd is if you are patched to 1.27 (possibly some earlier patches, but not retail version), and you extract the reaver elders in the tank instead of simply walking them into the extraction zone. In this case, the reaver elder you extracted first becomes the squad leader, and there is no way I have found to change the leader if this is the case. But in this case you can get a clone army so it sorta makes up for it.

Thats all I know. If you could've provided more info perhaps I coulda helped more but as you don't know/can't recall, thats all the help I can give.

Ooohhh... It was the horsemen encounter that did it to me then. Jeez!

Yeah my leader got changed and even moving the tabs would not change him back. SOOO, looks like I need a patch.

Thanks man! You have no idea what a headache this has been! You saved me a trip to the mental ward. Ha ha!

FOT BOS - squad problem!

here's the deal. so thought i'd det a super mutant in my squad, and i got pump(he's very good at killing robots with power fist) But in the middle of a mission, something happened and pump and my lead charachter switched places (and my guy had 8 rank - knight commander) and now if pump dies the game is over, and his rank is 1 initiate. So the problem is that i'm pretty fucked up :( and i can't recruit new good warriors. is there any way to fix this? :?:

Yeah that's right if you're really bad at the game the Brotherhood will replace your character as leader of the party with the worst one in your squad, not.

Sheesh would it hurt to read some of the other threads before posting, this was only recently covered.

Reload an older save game, take mentats and go back to the 4 horsemen encounter when you're suffering from withdrawal effects.

erm no ...

either reload the game and avoid the RE square or just finish the mission, gulp some mentats, and revisit the horsemen encounter.

no point in doing both D:

That's what I said, well I omitted the 'or' but hey if someone can't be bothered to read other posts to see if their problem has been already covered why should I be bothered to read and correct my post?

look i had the same problems.
why not just put a "help!!" category in the FO:T menu?
having to dig through the forum isn't really that fast ...

Urm what's fast got to do with anything? Too many people are looking for instant gratification these days, this isn't a chat room. The topics are there for people to read, if you don't, can't, won't read through old topics before posting a technical or gameplay question then a forum is the wrong place to be.

Think on this, if everyone used the search function, read the old topics and only then started a new topic once they were sure that their problem hadn't been covered before (and they were in the right forum) then the forum wouldn't be so cluttered and it would be a lot easier and quicker to find help in the first place.

your opinion is weird. do you work at the post office?

why offer help only then to hide the helpful topics somewhere in the forum?

Well, guess what, there's a SEARCH function. Ever tried it? try feeding it the phrase "switched" or "change places" or "change slots", and look in the RIGHT FORUM - that should cut the number of threads youneed to check.

As a matter of fact, I just found a thread on that topic with which I'm going to merge this one.

Stop acting like an ass, if you may.

I work in tech support so I it's pretty understandable when people don't do basic things to help themselves (I'm guilty) And answering the same question every day can get annoying. So, I dunno why don't you make a thread of Frequently asked problems? Reduce frustration levels for all involved.

As for the "or" thing, like seriously, who cares if he didnt say it?

We do. Unfortunately, some people are on mental vacation and can't accurately describe their problem. Or "things just happened". I tend to wonder about such people and their ability to walk across the street without being hit. I know it's useless to expect such people to have the sense to Search and see if the problem has already been addressed before; which if it is a legit problem and this forum has been aroudn for awhile, we would have had mention of it somewhere and we have. At length.

You just can't help those people other than hope they will learn after being told that they are fucking up and need to be pointed out common sense. Or for that matter, hope they actually read the stickied posts this time.
