Chris Pasetto (lead designer) aka Leo9 talked a little about Fbos (Xbox,Ps2) with EDBIS RPG, quite a positive interview compared to the one on Gamespy. Here is the gem of the interview:
[EDBIS RPG] What sort of support did the Black Islanders side of Interplay give you in terms of morale, criticism, and resources? Were they more or less helpful in making what FO:BOS is today?

[Christopher Pasetto] We worked with a couple of senior Black Isle staff members through the concept, design, and prototype stages of the project. They were very excited by the idea of a Fallout console/action game, and helped out with a lot of good info and criticism as they reviewed the initial design and tested playable versions. Really, we couldn't have (and wouldn't have) done this game without a good rapport with the BIS guys.
So you Bis guys had nothing to do with this, eh? Absolutely nothing eh?..
Other than that is all old news, somethings about the engine, limitations etc..etc..

I would like to see the "Elara influence" brought up in an interview. If there is one thing that really bugged me about the battle of FOBOS it is the mysterious actions of Elara...

Elara is the crux of all things negative about FOBOS. She has been one of the negatively vocal fans of Fallout since back in the days before FOT. One of the 1337 who was seduced by the dark side on a cold winter's eve in the Interplay forums. She turned from the bitch who hated FOBOS to a pariah, hailing FOBOS as the second coming. Then she changed her religion one last time only to disappear from the Fallout scene entirely; used by the machine and spit out in a bloody pulp. Was she a double agent? Was she on drugs? No-one will ever know to this day she remains one of the many casualties bludgeoned on the mighty battlefields.

Yay! Another excuse for me to post this!

DU, you have waaaaay too much time on your hands. Or should I say "in" your hands? :eyebrow:

So now we know who this mysterious Elara is...

Now do us another favor and tell us exactly how you think she might've influenced the game. And why would she be an influential Fallout fan that had an impact on the game, or at least more so than others? Just because she switched sides more than Anne Heche?

Further to the history of Elara in the FO:BoS hype. Elara was a vocal and critical complainant in the FO:BoS forum until one day when she was mysteriously made mod. At this point she still expressed displeasure at the fact that the game was being made instead of FO3, but did state that she thought the game could still be OK. She actively forced people to curb their abuse and insults on the forum.

It was quite obvious she still didn't like the game because she would swing between spouting good things about the game and bagging it with the rest of us (nothing super bad when she was bagging it though, which was real different from before she was a mod). However she began deleting a lot threads and posts. A lot of stuff that was not negative but merely critical or even constructive was deleted. It culminated in people complaining that she had been made a mod without even asking opinions or offering the position. People started saying that she was bribed to switch sides. Mr Carrot made the comment that she was bribed with a shiny big red dildo. It was at that point when it really blew up and was what led to the eventual closure of the forum after a period of attempted clamp down.

As it turned out, Chucky had contacted Elara and shown her some of the design documents, pics etc of the game. He made available confidential information to her in the hope to change her mind. Apparently it did to a degree, although lord knows why, and he then made her a mod of the forum.

Chucky's plan was that a respected member of the Fallout community might be able to convince the rest of us to shut up a bit or even like the idea  . All pretty devious. Imagine Churchhill turning round and going, Well, those Nazi chappies are not really that bad after all. In fact Hitler is a pretty nice guy. Why don't we stop this silly war and let them have Europe. Would you buy it?

my theory is that there is no Elara, but that she's just a forum clone, created by Chucky, to be able to show people that even the hardest critics 'fall' for Sellout:POS.

Perhaps she was actually thinking ahead and deleted all of those constructive posts just so that alot of the Fallout community members would be pissed off at FO:PoS and Interplay because of that? So now the sales will suck and the game will be blacklisted by the fan sites?

That's how I see it here and it seems like a good strategy if that's what she was really trying to do. In that sense, she was doing us all a favor rather than turning her back to us even though it may have seemed that way.

Am I just crazy or does anybody else think that it's a valid interpretation?

We're talking about a Fallout fan, not a CIA operative.

I can understand how her anti-FPOS position could have become less extreme if Chuck showed her some newer screenshots, because post-alpha graphics of the game are actually pretty good. But that still doesn't change the fact that everything else about the game sucks and has nothing to do with Fallout, so I really don't see what could possibly have changed her into FBOS fan, except for an open bribe of some kind.

I think that theory makes the most since.

But after my post, to which I expected no reply, I recieved a very long email from the head developer of FOBOS. He told me in that letter that, yes, mistakes had been made. Mistakes probably WOULD be made. Fallout BOS would not be directly in the line of earlier efforts. That efforts were being made to stay close to the orignal story but that things were being changed, that it would have some RPG elements but would be mostly action.

Most of all, he asked me, very simply, to at least give them a chance to explain things, to attack their work instead of attacking them. The various insults, racial epithets, and threats were discouraging and depressing to them.

More emails and texts followed. Descriptions of some of the elements of combat and character screens. Back and forth question and answer sessions. A summary of the storyline. Settings. Rationales for certain PR initiatives. Nothing that required an NDA...but some things were good, and some weren't, and I gave advice as I saw fit, and supported Chuck and his team -- not the game -- on teh boards.

I was...no, I AM willing to say that the game has some questionable parts, but that there are also some elements that are interesting, and that it's much better in some ways than FOT.

... and so on ad nauseum.

Hasn't Odin been asking for the same things, politely, on the IPlay Boards?

Why why Elara deemed privilaged enough to get all that insider info, and if it isn't protected by an NDA, why can't she post it for all of us to see?
