Well, after struggling for almost two weeks with the incompetence of the buttplugged half-apes at the game store, I finally managed to get my hands on The Chronicles of Riddick for the Xbox. I expected something medium, an empty graphical shell (the only reason I bought it at first was the Doom 3-like graphics).
But then I discovered so much more in this brilliant little FPS! First of all, the mature aspect of the game. Seeing the mercenary who captured me telling me that I was "a cocksucker", and that I should "sit the fuck down", was a nice surprise. I love it when developers embrace the M rating. I mean, I've never seen such a high density of the word "fuck".
When I got to talk to the other prisoners (yes, I was in a prison!), using the dialogue system which is part of the shallow, but still nice, RPG system, I found out more about advanced cursing techniques, and hints at some of them being "bitches" (you know, with the soap and all...). There was even an obscene graffiti on a wall, never seen in a well-established game before.
And most of the game is focused on hand-to-hand combat with other prisoners, with fists, shivs, and clubs, and is executed very nicely. You can block, do combos, and such. Pit fights are the bestest!
Finally, the stealthy gameplay, which often resembles Deus ex, except without the cuteness and moral obligations. Anyone who has seen the movie "Pitch Black" will know about Riddick's (Vin Diesel) "eyeshine" which allows him to see in the dark. This can be used for lots of fun stuff, such as sneaking up on enemies from behind and breaking their necks (with a loud *crack*) or stabbing them in the throat with a shiv. Or drop down onto them from high ground crushing them à la Splinter cell. All this with nice blood and gore, of course.
So, to sum it up, I recommend The Chronicles of Riddick to anyone who owns an Xbox (Europeans will have to wait until August to play it, though) as, despite its short length, is great fun and has a decent replayability (once you've finished you can start from anywhere in the game) . No multiplayer, though, and I know that can upset some, but I don't really care, since I don't use Live. A coop mode would have been fun, but it wouldn't have fit in with the story very well.
PS
If anyone is doubting its graphical superiority,
