City Life

Duckman

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
I just got this game off ebay from some guy in Thailand, and the manual and game box are in Thai... But that is nowhere near the problems I am having with the game.

It installs perfectly, and loads the game, and then half way through the loading when you first enter the game, it crashes and escapes to desktop.

WTF? My PC has (I think) at LEAST the minimum specs (and on closer inspection, over that amount)... So if anyone has a similar problem, or knows of a way to get the game working, I would really appreciate it. I'm currently looking for patches, but there doesn't seem to be too many around.

EDIT: After some inspection, I found that there is a common problem where the game crashes during loading, and there is a patch for windows ME, so I'm downloading, in the vain attempt for the game to work... Even though I have XP...

Fingers crossed!

EDIT Part 2:

This patch did not work, so I am fucking pissed off. Trying some more stuff out now...

Try running it in compatibility mode for WinME.

Hmm, and how would I do that?

I've tried a whole bunch of stuff, and it all ends with me getting the shits...

Right-click the .exe file -> Compatibility -> check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" -> select "Windows 98 / Windows ME" from the drop-down list

Appreciate the help Ratty, but it still did not work.

Time to burn the game methinks.

Here is their tech support forum if you are interested.

It seems tons of people are having the same crash issue during load. According to most of the threads, video cards are to blame. The company who made the game also claims to be soon releasing a patch to fix this issue. Take a look at that link for more info.

Hmm, they seem to usethe onboard gfx display drive, yet I picked up my GeForce 4 MX440 from a mate for $20 the other week, and it still doesn't work.

I mean, even previous to getting the MX440, I could play AoE 3, Stronghold, and even Civ 4 with little trouble, although the detail was poor.

But there are so many apparent "fixes" that work for different people, I guess it's worth trying them all.

Thanks Killap!

killap, start working on the patch.

It's true though. If only all games had such a following as Fallout. (or maybe devs who spent more time on quality and substance than "prettiness."

maybe you should take a loooooooong vacation to prepare yourself for FO3. a lot of work afoot, me thinkz!
