Civil War Game?

First time out of the vault
Is it possible to make a civil war (or WW1) that can actually provide any entertainment?
Or will 20 second reload times and obsolete combat tactics make this kind of fps too boring for most people?

Truth be told I was always curious about this one, I saw it for $20 in Wal-Mart a lot but never took the chance.

The Total War series are a lot of fun, despite the fact they contain severely obsolete tactics.

Are you talking about an FPS? Try Call of Juarez 2. It contains a bit of action set in the american civil war.

I remember playing the demo of Gettysburg. Was really fun for a game watching two sides line up and shoot each other.

Sid Meier made 2 great civil war games. Gettysburg and Antietam.

You should try Take Command: 2nd Manassas. It's reminiscent of Gettysburg in a lot of ways. In fact, one of the guys who made that game is making a game called Scourge of War: Gettysburg, which will hopefully be out some time this year. I'm personally looking forward to it.

Fall asleep during history class? Meier's games were very well made, and re-created warfare from that period fairly well. Having to balance moving your artillery pieces with proper troop movement, keeping an eye on your flank, etc, was well done.

I'll keep an eye out for sure.

Darkest of Days has some Civil War and WW1 combat. I thought it was nice for a change. It's not very advanced nor very varied, though, so the game was poorly received.

No I wasn't being sarcastic, I really do enjoy that kind of thing.

Ever played Cossacks 2? Extremely satisfying if gunning down massive amounts of men in firing lines is your thing.

I've got the original Cossacks but never got around to trying II.
Think I was put of by some iffy reviews or that might of been a different game.

Empire total war.

Empire total war.

Empire total war.

Really, there's nothing else that comes close, especially with a Darthmod or any other major overhaul. They're even making a civil war mod.

If you like action, I think they're making a civil war mod for Mount & Blade, as well.

WW1 Source for Half Life 2, its in beta, but its pretty fun I think, but trying to shoot a single shot gun is a pain in the fucking ass, you end up just using the bayonet.

I played the Darkest Days demo on Steam. Meh. Graphics are oogly, but gameplay is ok. I filmed the whole thing with Fraps, maybe I'll post it later.
